Jameis Winston's Brother Jonah Commits to FSU, WR Chose Seminoles over Alabama, More
Wide receiver Jonah Winston, the brother of New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston, told On3's Hayes Fawcett he has committed to Florida State.
The three-star prospect out of Hoover, Alabama chose the Seminoles over other offers including Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and Colorado, according to 247Sports.
He will join FSU's 2026 recruiting class, which is currently ranked 14th in the nation by 247Sports.
Winston's brother, Jameis, celebrated the news in a Saturday night post on social media:
On3's Matt LaSerre reported that Winston will mainly play in the slot with the Seminoles, but that the team plans to "create different packages to move him around as well."
Winston is ranked as the No. 47 wide receiver in the class, as well as the No. 15 player in the state of Alabama by 247Sports.
He previously played quarterback for Hoover before switching to wide receiver, where he led his team with 38 receptions, 542 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns last season.
Winston also recorded 152 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 21 carries to help his team go 10-3.
The wide receiver has been considering Florida State since at least February 2024, when he told LaSerre that he "basically grew up at FSU."
Winston's brother, Jameis, played two seasons with Florida State. The quarterback won a BCS national championship and became the youngest player to ever win the Heisman Trophy after the 2013 season.
The news of Winston's commitment comes shortly after Florida State, which is coming off a 2-10 campaign last season, celebrated a season-opening upset of Alabama.
FSU is undergoing an ongoing remodel of the program's passing game, which started with Mike Norvell hiring Tim Harris Jr. as wide receivers coach ahead of the season.
The program subsequently received commitments from a host of four-star wide receiver recruits including Brandon Bennett, Jasen Lopez, Devin Carter, Efrem White and Darryon Williams.
The Seminoles will now hope adding Winston to that group will take the program one step closer to returning to bowl game contention.
