OSU's Jeremiah Smith Talks Michigan, Says He Hates Them 'With Everything In Me'

Doric SamAug 20, 2025

The rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan is one of the most storied battles in all of sports history, and Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith recently made it clear that there's no love lost between the two sides.

During an appearance on The Triple Option, Smith was asked by former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer about what he thinks about the Wolverines, and he didn't mince words.

"Hate," Smith said (h/t Dan Morrison of On3.com). "You know. With everything in me, I hate them."

Smith is coming off an incredible freshman season for the Buckeyes in which he earned second-team All-American honors and helped them win a national championship. However, the lone blemish from his first year of college football was a loss to the Wolverines in the regular-season finale.

Smith's comments echoed his previous sentiments about Michigan, as he vowed earlier this summer to never lose to the team for the remainder of his college career.

"I'm not a sore loser, but I hate losing, and losing to That Team Up North was pretty crazy," Smith said at the time. "In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn't want to go to Ohio State and lose to That Team Up North. I just hate them. Just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can't lose to them in the next two years."

Smith is projected to be one of the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy this year, so he will have a major impact on Ohio State's success in 2025. The Buckeyes won't face the Wolverines until the final game of the regular season, so Smith will have quite some time to prepare for the matchup before trying to avenge last year's loss.
