5-Star RB Savion Hiter Commits to Sherrone Moore, Michigan Over OSU, UGA, Tennessee
Michigan landed one of the best players in the 2026 class, as 5-star running back Savion Hiter announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Tuesday morning.
Hiter chose Michigan over fellow finalists Ohio State, Georgia and Tennessee. He is ranked as the No. 1 running back and No. 9 overall player in the class of 2026 in 247Sports' composite.
When asked about his decision to commit to the Wolverines, Hiter pointed to the presence of running backs coach Tony Alford, who previously served in the same role at Ohio State.
"Teaching little running backs to big running backs like Ezekiel Elliot, it feels great to have a chance to be coached by him," Hiter said.
A 5'11.5", 200-pound speedster out of Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia, Hiter is coming off a stellar junior season in 2024 in which he ran the ball 156 times for 1,698 yards and 26 touchdowns. He added 199 receiving yards and notched three kickoff return touchdowns while also starring on defense with 56 tackles, seven sacks and an interception. He earned a trip to this year's Under Armour All-America Game.
Hiter is a two-sport athlete who also stars in Track & Field, finishing as a state qualifier at VHSL Class 4A indoor meet as a sophomore in the 55-meter dash, long jump and triple jump.
247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins described Hiter as a "Juiced-up running back with star potential for a College Football Playoff contender given the mix of his burst, power, agility, balance and vision." Ivins went on to predict that he will have a bright future both in his collegiate career and in the NFL.
"Overall, should be viewed as a gifted ball carrier that can be a multi-year impact player on Saturdays and provide valuable minutes as early as Year 1," Ivins stated. "Must avoid setbacks and remain hungry, but profiles as a future NFL Draft pick with his size, testing and feel for the position."
In the wake of recent NCAA sanctions for the Wolverines stemming from a sign-stealing scandal, Hiter's commitment brings some positive vibes to Michigan as the team prepares to open the 2025 season on Aug. 30 against New Mexico.
