Deion Sanders Challenges Colorado Players in Video Ahead of Week 1 vs. Georgia Tech
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is hoping to see more urgency from his players as the start of the 2025 season quickly approaches.
In a behind-the-scenes video released on Monday, Sanders laid down the law with a fiery speech in which he challenged his players to lock in as they prepare for their Week 1 matchup against Georgia Tech that's only 12 days away.
"Some of you plan on hitting a switch that you haven't even hit already, but you don't understand that switch ain't there," Sanders said (3:00 mark). "You got 12 days to unite, to come together as a team, as a staff, to understand what we represent and who we are, the culture, the standard that we've set. We got 12 darn days to stop playing around, to get serious, because some people in these seats are really serious about getting to the next level and winning, and then that person next to them ain't. We got 12 days to figure out who that is."
The source of Sanders' frustration seemed to be the Buffaloes' poor performance in an offseason scrimmage. Colorado is welcoming a host of new players after losing stars like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL draft, but Coach Prime still expects more from his team.
"If you perform like you performed in that scrimmage, they gonna eat you alive," Sanders said (4:50 mark). "You might as well disconnect your social media, because now they're kind. Do what you did out there in that scrimmage and see what they do. They gonna eat you alive. You got 12 days to get this thing together."
Sanders called out anyone in the program putting up a front, though he expressed confidence in Colorado's ability to put a good product on the field.
"We got 12 darn days to perfect our craft. 12 days, and some of y'all still trick-or-treating. Got on a costume, it ain't even Halloween," Sanders said (5:55 mark). "I know a football player when I see it, I know a coach when I see it too, and when we go out there, we're gonna make sure we got at least 11 guys on the field at all times that wanna play football, and we're gonna have coaches up there that really wanna coach."
