Alabama RB Jam Miller Reportedly Out vs. FSU After Surgery on Upper-Body Injury
Alabama running back Jam Miller reportedly will miss the Crimson Tide's season-opening matchup against Florida State on Aug. 30 after suffering an upper-body injury in a scrimmage on Saturday, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed the injury in a statement.
"Miller suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's scrimmage and went in for a procedure on Saturday evening," he said. "Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined."
Miller, a senior, rushed for 668 and seven touchdowns last season, adding 16 catches for 155 yards and another touchdown. He was Alabama's most productive running back—though quarterback Jalen Milroe, now in the NFL, led the Crimson Tide in rushing yards (726) and touchdowns (20)—and has put together a strong summer ahead of the 2025 campaign.
"He's the man," offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb told reporters on Aug. 5. "Love that guy. ... Jam's been doing everything. The thing about a guy like Jam, you love older guys who you don't feel like their skillset's complete. What I mean by that is Jam, really wholeheartedly takes on, there are things I can get better at. He works at them extremely hard. He's very diligent about his process. So he's a good leader in the room."
In his absence, Richard Young and Daniel Hill will likely lead the backfield against Florida State, while senior Dre Washington could see touches as well.
Alabama opens the season as the No. 8 team in the country, per Associated Press voters. Florida State, fresh off an abysmal 2-10 season, is currently unranked.
