Michigan CFB Investigation Findings, Punishments Reportedly to Be Released Friday

Doric SamAug 14, 2025

The investigation into NCAA infractions committed by the Michigan football program is officially nearing its end.

Per ESPN's Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel, the NCAA has formally notified the parties involved in the investigation that the findings and punishments will be publicly announced on Friday.

The investigation is tied to the controversial advanced scouting scandal involving former Michigan staff member Connor Stalions, who allegedly ran an elaborate operation in which he had friends and family attend games around the country to videotape sideline play signals of future opponents of the Wolverines. Thamel and Wetzel reported that the NCAA sent a notice of allegations to Michigan in August 2024, citing the program for 11 violations, six of which were deemed Level I.

In a social media post last month, Stalions admitted to knowing almost every signal opponents used in seven games over two seasons.

"There were 7 games in my time at Michigan where I knew almost every signal the whole game: 2021 MSU, 2022 MSU, 2022 PSU, 2022 OSU, 2022 TCU, 2021 Georgia, and 2021 Wisconsin," Stalions wrote in his post. "We lost 3 of those games because we didn't tackle well, and Georgia was historically good. We won the four other games because we dominated the line of scrimmage & tackled well. Blocking, ball security, tackling, run fits & coverage tools. That's football. This is not rocket science."

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore, who was the team's offensive coordinator under former head coach Jim Harbaugh at the time of the controversy, reportedly is expected to be suspended for two games for the 2025 season as part of self-imposed sanctions by the university.

It sounds like more punishments are on the way from the NCAA, so it will be interesting to see how they affect the Wolverines ahead of their 2025 season opener on Aug. 30 against New Mexico.
