Chelsea to Give Share of Club World Cup Bonuses to Family of Diogo Jota, Andre Silva
After winning FIFA's Club World Cup last month, Chelsea will use a portion of its bonus money for a good cause.
Per The Athletic's Mario Cortegana and Adam Crafton, Chelsea will make a financial donation to the family of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva. The pair of brothers died in a car accident in the Spanish province of Zamora on July 3, just 10 days before Chelsea’s Club World Cup final victory.
Chelsea was victorious in the tournament after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The club earned an estimated $114.6 million (£84.4m) for its success in the Club World Cup.

After the win, Chelsea set aside a $15.5 million (£11.4m) fund to be distributed equally among the players, and a joint decision was made by the club and the players to make an equal payment to the family of Jota and Silva. The overall value of each bonus exceeds $500,000 before accounting for currency conversion costs and other taxes.
Silva was a footballer at Portuguese club Penafiel. Jota starred for Liverpool, which recently announced plans for a memorial sculpture to serve as a permanent tribute at their Anfield stadium. Jota's former teammates will also wear a "Forever 20" emblem on their shirts and stadium jackets for the duration of the 2025-26 season. Last month, the club announced that it is permanently retiring Jota's No. 20 jersey at all levels.
