Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors Contract Talks Reportedly Haven't Had 'Substantial' Changes
Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors are reportedly still at a standstill in their contract talks.
Per ESPN's Anthony Slater, there have been no "substantial" changes regarding Kuminga and the Warriors' negotiations over the past two weeks.
Slater and others have reported that Golden State offered Kuminga a two-year, $45 million deal.
According to Slater, the Warriors presented that contract offer to Kuminga's agent "as a tradeable deal that could ultimately appease the long-term wishes of both sides when he's eligible to be moved again in January," but Kuminga "has continued to shut it down."
The young forward doesn't like "the idea of signing up to be more easily traded midseason."
Slater noted that Kuminga's representation is looking for a three-year, $82 million deal, but the Warriors have "resisted" that contract.
Kuminga is a restricted free agent this offseason, meaning the Warriors have the power to match any contract offer he receives. That makes Kuminga's only likely avenue out of Golden State a sign-and-trade.
The Warriors initially hoped to sign-and-trade Kuminga, though The Athletic's Fred Katz reported last month that they "haven't gained any traction" on a deal.
Kuminga received a $7.9 million qualifying offer from the Warriors earlier this offseason, taking that one-year deal "is more appealing to him than the Warriors' current pitch," according to Slater.
