Michael Jordan's Boat Wins $389K in Prize Money for 2nd Place at White Marlin Open
A defining characteristic of Michael Jordan during his playing days was his competitive edge. Now retired, he's finding new ways to stay competitive.
The Chicago Bulls legend's 80-foot yacht, named Catch 23, took home second place at the White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Maryland, this week, earning $389,377 in prize money.
Trey "Cricket" McMillan from Charleston, South Carolina, was the angler for Catch 23 and hauled in a 71-pound white marlin on Saturday.
The New York Post's Christian Arnold noted that Catch 23 pulled into the harbor playing the song "Sirius," which Jordan's Bulls used as their entrance song for much of the 1990s during their legendary dynasty. Jordan stood alongside the boat's crew as it came in with its second-place winning fish.
The winning boat, Billfisher, won $3.91 million in prize money after Dan Gough from Ocean City reeled in a 72-pound marlin.
Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, is not new to competitive fishing. His boat has been involved in several tournaments over the past few years, placing ninth at the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in 2020 after catching a 442.3-pound blue marlin and winning the Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Release Tournament in 2021.
Jordan seems to excel in just about any competition he enters, and fishing is no exception. Knowing the all-time great, it wouldn't be surprising to see him come back and win the White Marlin Open next year.
