DEION SANDERS CANCER

Deion Sanders Shares Text to Shedeur, Shilo Before Surgery to Remove Cancer in Video

Paul KasabianJul 28, 2025

Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders, flanked by his medical team, revealed to reporters Monday that he had successful surgery to remove his bladder after a cancerous tumor was found. Thankfully, he has since been cured, with no traces of the cancer remaining.

On Monday, Well Off Media, a company founded by Sanders' eldest son, Deion Jr., dropped a video showing Sanders getting ready for his surgery, which occurred on May 9.

At the 3:30 mark, Sanders noted that he was texting his sons, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Shilo Sanders, who were both starting minicamp that day.

"Texting the boys," Sanders said. "It's their first day of practice today, and I'm excited. It's kind of the first day that we've been apart for a long time."

"Love you, son. And proud of you. I can't wait to hear how today went," Sanders said.

A harrowing moment occurred right after that text reveal, as Sanders revealed that he wasn't sure if he was ready mentally or emotionally. Then, Sanders said that he had to make a will the night before the surgery.

"It's just not easy, at all, to think that you might not be here. But you want to make sure everybody's straight."

Thankfully, Sanders has recovered as he looks toward year three with the Buffaloes. He'll be back coaching on the sidelines once again as he looks to lead Colorado, which finished 25th in the final 2024 Associated Press poll, back to prominence. Colorado's first game will take place on Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech.
