Yankees Reportedly Felt Eugenio Suarez Price Was Too High Before Ryan McMahon Trade
The New York Yankees' acquisition of third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies came as a bit of a surprise after they were previously linked to another star slugger.
Despite pursuing a trade for Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez, the Yankees ultimately filled their need by adding McMahon.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale explained that the Yankees "had extensive talks with the D-backs for Suárez, but thought the price-tag was too high when they pivoted and traded for" McMahon, who is considered to be "superior defensively."

It's understandable that Arizona wouldn't let Suárez go easily, as he's in the midst of a career year. He's been named NL Player of the Week four times during the 2025 season, and he leads MLB with 87 RBI while tying for fourth with 36 home runs.
Suárez's success this year made him one of the top names on the trade market, but time is running out for teams to pry him from Arizona before the July 31 trade deadline. However, New York's decision to instead acquire McMahon appears to have made it more likely that Suárez could be staying put this season.
