Ole Miss DL Corey Adams Dies at Age 18 Following Shooting in Tennessee
Ole Miss defensive lineman Corey Adams died from gunshot wounds at the age of 18 following a Saturday shooting in Tennessee.
"We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee," the Ole Miss football team said in a statement. "While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
"Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved."
ESPN's Adam Rittenberg and Christopher Dabe of NOLA.com reported the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said Adams was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting in Cordova, Tennessee, just outside of Memphis.
Rittenberg reported that four other men were shot and hospitalized, although none of them are listed in critical condition.
Shelby County sheriff's deputies found Adams in a car close to where the shooting occurred and attempted life-saving measures. However, Shelby County fire personnel later arrived and pronounced him dead.
Dabe noted Adams was a "standout" player at Edna Karr in Louisiana who was named the All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year by The Times-Picayune. He was also named to the Class 5A All-State team twice by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Dabe relayed a message from the Edna Karr football Facebook page that said the program and community were "heartbroken and tormented to pieces" by the death of someone they called "a friend, brother, son, student, and all around great young man."
Adams enrolled at Ole Miss this winter as a member of Ole Miss' 2025 recruiting class.
