Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. Moves to 2B from 3B amid Shoulder Injury
Amid a recent shoulder injury, New York Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. is changing positions.
On the Talkin' Yanks podcast, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Chisholm will move from third base back to second base. Chisholm has made 28 consecutive starts at third base.

The move to second base for Chisholm will start with Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners, according to ESPN.
Chisholm missed the Yankees' series finale against the New York Mets because of shoulder soreness, and he has struggled at the hot corner as of late, recording three throwing errors in his past four games.
“I would never use anything as an excuse,” Chisholm said, per the New York Post's Mark W. Sanchez. “Yeah, my arm was sore, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t make a play.”
While he has dealt with some defensive woes recently, Chisholm has continued to put up good numbers at the plate with 15 home runs and 38 RBI in 59 games this season. That earned him his second All-Star appearance.
Chisholm is naturally a second baseman, but injuries have shaken up the Yankees' infield this season. Third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera suffered a season-ending ankle injury in May, forcing Chisholm to man that position.
“Everybody knows I’m a second baseman,” Chisholm told The Athletic's Chris Kirschner last week. “Of course, I want to play second base, but whatever it takes to help the team win. If that’s what the team chooses, that’s what I gotta do. I don’t write the lineups. You feel me?
“I’m playing every day, so it’s hard to be upset. Yes, I know I’m a second baseman. Yes, I know I’m better at second base, but at the end of the day, I still have to play third. I just have to deal with it."
With Chisholm taking over at second, Oswald Peraza will shift to third base, and DJ LeMahieu, who has started 45 games at second base, will move out of the lineup for the time being.
According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Boone said Chisholm is expected to be the everyday starter at second base, but said "we'll see" about Peraza at third. Boone also said LeMahieu won't play third base because "physically, it's a challenge" for him at the moment.
Peraza has a .154 average with three home runs and 13 RBI in 57 games this year. LeMahieu has a .266 batting average with a pair of homers and 12 RBI this season.
But the lineup change may not be a permanent fix for the Yankees. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the team is "starting to make calls" about help at third base ahead of the trade deadline at the end of the month.
New York had a strong start to the season but has struggled recently, going 3-7 in its last 10 games to drop to second place in the AL East at 49-41. Perhaps making the right move ahead of the trade deadline will help the Yankees get back on track heading into the home stretch.
