Novak Djokovic Unsure If Wimbledon Will Be 'Last Dance,' Talks 25th Grand Slam Pursuit
Novak Djokovic said he hopes to extend his career for several more years when asked on Saturday if the 2025 Wimbledon Championships could be his "last dance."
"Where it could be my last dance, I'm not sure, as I am not sure about Roland Garros or any other slam that I play next," Djokovic responded during his Saturday press conference (6:00 mark.)
Djokovic continued, "My wish is to play for several more years. I love to be healthy, physically and also mentally, motivated to keep on playing at the highest level. That's the goal. But, you know, you never know at this stage."
Djokovic added that he believes Wimbledon is his "best chance" to win another major.
A 25th career Grand Slam win would move Djokovic past Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam wins of all time, while allowing him to tie Roger Federer's record of eight singles titles at Wimbledon.
"Because of the results I had, because of how I feel and how I play in Wimbledon, just getting that extra push mentally and motivation to perform the best tennis at the highest level," Djokovic said.
Djokovic's tournament is set to begin on Tuesday against No. 40 Alexandre Muller. The two have faced off just once before, when Djokovic claimed a three-set win during the Round of 128 at the 2023 U.S. Open.
The world No. 6 hasn't won a Grand Slam since beating Daniil Medvedev in the final of that 2023 tournament.
In order to get back on top of a final, Djokovic will need to first get past Muller before potentially facing other top opponents including Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, who is opening Wimbledon against Fabio Fognini, defeated Djokovic in the final of both the 2023 and 2024 tournaments.
The two could potentially be set for a rematch later this months as The Championships get underway at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club from Monday through Sunday, July 13.
