Warriors Pick Toohey, Richard in NBA Draft After Suns Trade as Fans Praise Additions
The Golden State Warriors added Australian forward Alex Toohey and Florida guard Will Richard near the end of the second round of the 2025 NBA draft on Thursday night.
The Warriors first selected Toohey with the No. 52 overall pick after receiving the choice as part of a trade with the Phoenix Suns earlier on Thursday, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Golden State also came away from the deal with the No. 59 overall pick, while the Suns moved up to No. 41.
Golden State then traded up to No. 56 in order to select Richard, per NBA insider Jake Fischer.

New NBA Anti-Tanking Reform
Fans were excited about the long-term outlook of Toohey and Richard.
Toohey will now head to the NBA after spending the past two seasons at Sydney in the NBL.
He's coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 10.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game on 44.9/31.0/72.6 shooting splits.
While there are questions about Toohey's jumper, it's worth noting that his three-point percentage and free-throw percentage both improved across his two NBL seasons.
He also shot 3-of-5 from behind the arc in a scrimmage with other prospects at the combine, via ESPN's Jonathan Givony.
As for Richard, he served as a key starter on a Gators squad that took home a national title at the end of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
In 40 appearances during his senior season, he averaged 13.3 points and 4.6 rebounds to go along with 1.7 steals per game.
Richard remained a consistent shooter throughout his college career at Florida, connecting on 36.3 percent of his triples over the past three years combined. He also never shot below 34.5 percent from three in a single year across that span.
Toohey and Richard were listed as the No. 9 and No. 40 prospects still available entering the second round on Bleacher Report's latest big board, respectively.
Now, both players will look to clinch spots in Warriors head coach Steve Kerr's rotation entering the 2025-26 season.
