Diontae Johnson Says He Was 'Humbled' By Browns Being Only Team to Reach Out in NFL FA
Wide receiver Diontae Johnson revealed that he was "humbled" after the Cleveland Browns were the lone team to contact him in free agency, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
“I had been home ever since and I was just hoping that I got something,” Johnson said, per Cabot. “Cleveland called and I was thankful. They’re the only team that called the whole offseason. It humbled me though.”
Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Browns on April 28 following a tumultuous 2024 campaign in which he suited up for three teams.

He opened the year with the Carolina Panthers, but was traded to the Baltimore Ravens in Oct. 2024. Johnson played sparingly across four games before he was suspended by the team for declining to enter a clash with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I wasn't getting no run plays, no passing plays or nothing," Johnson explained during a June 12 appearance on the Sports and Suits podcast. "It was cold. End of the third, going into the fourth, they were like, 'Tae, we need you.' I was like, 'Nah, I don't think it's a good idea for me.' Like my legs are already ice cold and I didn't wanna go out there and put bad stuff on film."
The Ravens eventually waived him.
Johnson was claimed by the Houston Texans, catching two passes for 12 yards in one game with the team.
In 12 combined appearances last season, he hauled in 33 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns.
It was a disappointing year for Johnson, who recorded 3,646 receiving yards across his first four years in the NFL and earned a Pro Bowl nod for his 2021 campaign.
Now, he's looking to get back on track in Cleveland.
