T-Wolves' No. 31 Pick Reportedly Being 'Auctioned' Ahead of 2nd Round of NBA Draft
Having already added Joan Beringer in the first round of the 2025 NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to move off the No. 31 overall pick prior to the start of the second round on Thursday night.
On The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Shams Charania reported the first pick of day two is being "auctioned" off by the Timberwolves and multiple suitors are in on the bidding.
NBA insider Jake Fischer also reported the T-Wolves were fielding offers for the pick.
There has already been one notable trade involving second-round draft picks today. The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly acquired the No. 45 pick from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for pick No. 55 and cash.
Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd noted after the first round on Wednesday night that the Toronto Raptors received some intriguing offers when they had the 31st pick in last year's draft.
The Raptors opted not to trade that pick, instead using it to select San Francisco forward Jonathan Mogbo. They were in a different point in their roster cycle than the Timberwolves currently are, so it made sense for them to bet on a young player with upside.
Minnesota is in the process of trying to walk the tightrope of adding cost-controlled talent and maintaining its status as a title contender in the Western Conference.
The selection of Joan Beringer with pick No. 17 does afford the Timberwolves some wiggle room because they are bringing in a rookie with the defensive profile to potentially step in as the heir apparent to Rudy Gobert.
It's also smart business to make it known the first pick in the second round is available so teams that may have had their eye on a prospect who wasn't taken on Wednesday could make a pitch to the Timberwolves.
Minnesota is also likely interested in acquiring any future picks, even if its highly-protected, because this year marks the last time the club has control of a first-round choice until 2028.
