Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Idea To Join Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper's Spurs
It hasn't even been a week, but the 2025 NBA offseason is already a wild one.
Kevin Durant, Desmond Bane and CJ McCollum have all been traded. And more big names are likely to move before the 2025-26 campaign.
Of course, free agency will be the avenue for plenty, but some big trades could be on the way too.
Even Giannis Antetokounmpo, whose rumor mill quieted in recent weeks, might still be in plaly.
In a recent appearance on ESPN's Get Up, Shams Charania said there's still a chance Giannis might be available "later in the summer," assuming the Milwaukee Bucks can't make some moves to convince him they'll soon be title contenders again.
If he is available, the San Antonio Spurs can make the kind of monster offer that could entice Milwaukee, even without including this week's No. 2 pick, Dylan Harper.
The Spurs can offer a load of picks, a promising young player and tradable veteran contracts that could lead to more assets.
The Deal

Before we get into why each team would make this move, it helps to see the entire framework at a glance.
San Antonio Receives: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Receives: Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Stephon Castle, a 2027 first-round pick (via Atlanta), a 2029 first-round pick, a 2031 first-round pick (swap rights with Sacramento), a 2032 first-round pick swap and three second-round picks
Feel free to quibble over the number of picks involved. San Antonio has more seconds to give. Including Carter Bryant could eventually be in play, too. Swapping Harper in for Castle may reduce the number of outgoing firsts.
There are multiple ways to potentially get there, but this one checks boxes for both teams.
Why San Antonio Does It
2 of 3
Adding Giannis Antetokounmpo to Victor Wembanyama is a pretty obvious, massive win, but the price San Antonio still commands an explanation.
Four first-rounders (including one from the Sacramento Kings!), three seconds, the reigning rookie of the year and a pair of wings that could be flipped for more is a gargantuan haul.
But the Wemby-Giannis duo would be worth it. It'd boast a better and more unique combination of length and athleticism than any top two we've ever seen. Wemby's outside shot would be a great complement to Giannis' slashing (and vice versa). The amount of ground both would cover on defense would be incredible. Oh, and just imagine pick-and-rolls with those two. Either could be the ball-handler.
The list of reasons to get excited about that pairing could go one for a while.
Now, with the current roster, it wouldn't be a perfect fit, especially after losing Vassell's shooting. De'Aaron Fox and Harper aren't exactly spacing the floor.
But the raw talent on the resulting team would make it an instant title contender. And Wemby has proven he's already worthy of that kind of timeline acceleration.
Why Milwaukee Does It
3 of 3
Let's get this out of the way at the top. The Bucks shouldn't (and likely won't) trade Antetokounmpo unless he explicitly asks for it.
And right now, there isn't even much speculation that he will. Just a series of hypotheticals that could lead to that fateful moment for Milwaukee.
BUT IF THAT DOES HAPPEN, even without throwing Harper in, San Antonio can put together a very compelling offer.
The chances of Castle developing into another Giannis are basically nonexistent, but he does look like a foundational-level talent at 20 years old. He's 6'6" and can play either guard position. He's a smooth athlete who just averaged 14.7 points and 4.1 assists (including 19.4 and 5.6 after February 25) and won Rookie of the Year.
And if he becomes a reliable outside shooter, there is multi-time All-Star potential here.
But he's obviously not the entirety of this deal. Four first-rounders is a good haul, especially when one could be coming from the perennially head-scratching Kings. Juicing it with some seconds seems necessary, and San Antonio could probably afford to give up more than the three listed above. And, as previously mentioned, if Vassell and/or Johnson played well enough for a rebuilding Bucks team, there's a chance either or both could be flipped for even more picks and young talent before February.
Could someone else in the NBA outbid this package? Potentially, but it would absolutely get the Spurs into the conversation. And it would give the Bucks a strong start to the rebuild that would inevitably follow Giannis' departure.
