2025 NBA Draft Scouting Report for Indiana Pacers No. 38 Pick Kam Jones

B/R NBA StaffJun 26, 2025

The Indiana Pacers have selected Kam Jones with the No. 38 pick in the 2025 NBA draft.

Jones was one of the Big East’s most electric scorers this past season, earning first-Team All-Big East honors for Marquette.

He averaged 19.2 points per game, which was tied for 33rd in the nation, and he dished out 5.9 assists, which ranked 21st.

Jones, 23, played with confidence and pace, using quick, creative footwork and the threat of the long ball to keep defenders off balance.

His three-point shooting did dip to 31.1 percent this season, but he finished his college career as a 36.6 percent shooter on 6.3 attempts per game across four years, offering plenty of reason to believe he’ll rediscover that touch.

Overall, a four-year, 23-year-old senior isn’t likely to offer All-Star upside, and scouts know that. But Jones' floor appears high as he enters the league.

In the right situation, he could contribute early as an NBA-ready guard with good size and proven scoring chops.

Jones ranks No. 35 on B/R NBA draft expert Jonathan Wasserman's 2025 Prospect Big Board.

Realistic Pro Comparison: Malik Monk

1 of 3
Sacramento Kings v Cleveland Cavaliers

Jones improved his playmaking like current Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk did throughout his own draft journey, and both raised their value as potential combo guards.

They're also undersized 2-guards with shotmaking firepower and high-level finishing abilities.

Jones could wind up thriving as a bench spark, but in the right system, he could break into starter status as Monk has for a few stretches in his career.

Strengths

2 of 3
Marquette vs New Mexico
  • Shotmaking
  • Finishing
  • Improved Playmaking

Jones' career-best 19.2 points per game in his senior season raised his draft stock to fringe first-round status.

He also boosted his assist average to 5.9 per game from 1.9 per game prior to his senior year. The 5.9/game mark was just outside the nation's top 20.

Jones' game footage impressed scouts all year, but unfortunately he left the first combine scrimmage in May with a minor hamstring injury, losing a chance to showcase against the draft's best talent.

Weaknesses

3 of 3
2025 NBA Draft Combine
  • Athleticism for Separating
  • Pull-Up Shooting
  • Defensive Tools

Nobody is writing home about Jones' defensive toolkit, and that's largely because he makes more plays with skill and precision than with elite athleticism.

Offensively, any lack of athleticism is most prevalent when he struggles creating space against tight defenses.

Against NBA competition, we may also see his pull-up shooting struggling to translate as well. Jones can stuff a stat sheet or score in different ways, but in the pros, it'll be about making the right reads and taking the right shots.
