ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Houston sent guard Jalen Green, forward Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in this year's draft and five second-round picks to Phoenix to acquire Durant.
The former NBA MVP is joining a Rockets team that finished second in the Western Conference with a 52-30 record this season before losing to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs in seven games. The 36-year-old's presence should help stabilize the team as it chases an NBA title next season and beyond.
Despite trading away Green, the No. 2 pick in the 2023 draft, Houston still has a strong core of talented young players. Durant will be playing alongside 2025 All-Star center Alperen Sengun, All-Defensive first team selection and rising two-way star Amen Thompson and veteran point guard Fred VanVleet. The 15-time All-Star also has a strong relationship with Rockets head coach Ime Udoka dating back to their time together with the Brooklyn Nets, fueling the hope that he will fit right in with his new team.
Of course, Houston won't be the only team reloading for a championship run next season. The West is chock full of talented squads that will be motivated to reach the pinnacle, so Durant and company will have their work cut out for them as they compete for an NBA title.
