The Miami Heat could look to a Martin brother as a potential roster addition this summer.
NBA insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein reported that multiple team's have expressed interest in Phoenix Suns forward Cody Martin as a potential moving part in a Kevin Durant trade. The Miami Heat reportedly "have an affinity" for the 29-year-old after getting to know him when his twin brother, Caleb, was with the franchise.
“League sources say several teams have registered interest in the Suns' Cody Martin," Fischer and Stein wrote. "The veteran swingman could very well factor into any direct or multi-team deal that Phoenix inevitably puts together to ship out the NBA's No. 8 all-time leading scorer. Miami, to name one example, is known to hold an affinity for Martin, sources say. The Heat certainly developed a familiarity for Martin while Miami rostered his twin brother Caleb.”
Martin averaged 6.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and two assists in 53 games in 2024-25. He was dealt to Phoenix in February and has one season remaining on his contract.
Caleb Martin was notably with the Heat from 2021-24, playing 195 games with the franchise and averaging 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
Cody Martin could be utilized as a trade chip alongside Durant to help with depth and the Heat could definitely use the help. Miami went 37-45 in 2024-25 and fell in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The team also dealt away star guard Jimmy Butler during the season and adding some replenishments could be exactly what the team needs to return to contention in the Eastern Conference.
