Brewers' Aaron Civale Reportedly Traded to White Sox After Being Moved to Bullpen

Adam WellsJun 13, 2025

Aaron Civale is on the move.

One day after requesting a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers, Civale has been shipped to the Chicago White Sox, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

FanSided's Robert Murray reported the Brewers will receive first baseman Andrew Vaughn in exchange for Civale.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, Civale's agent, Jack Toffey, made a formal trade request to Brewers general manager Matt Arnold on behalf of the veteran right-hander after he was removed from the rotation and bumped to the bullpen.

"The conversation was very professional," Toffey said. "I just very respectfully said that Aaron would really like an opportunity to continue his career as a starter. He’s going to be a free agent at the end of the year."

Civale's request came as the Brewers called up top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski to make his first career MLB start on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Misiorowski, 23, was Milwaukee's second-round pick (No. 63 overall) in the 2022 MLB draft. The right-hander was ranked as the 63rd-best prospect coming into this season and dazzled in his MLB debut, striking out five without allowing a hit before exiting with an injury.

MLB.com's scouting report for Misiorowski touts his two plus-plus pitches (fastball and curveball), with his heater routinely registering triple-digits on the radar gun.

The decision to drop Civale from the rotation appeared to be more an issue of spots available than an indication of his performance. Since returning from a nearly two-month stint on the injured list due to a hamstring strain, he has posted a 3.32 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 19 innings over his last four starts.

Rotation depth is an area where the Brewers are strong right now. Misiorowski joined a group with Freddy Peralta, Chad Patrick, José Quintana and Quinn Priester.

The Brewers rank fifth in MLB with a 3.41 ERA from their starting rotation.

Civale's decision to request a trade came at a key point in his career, as he will be eligible for free agency for the first time after this season.
