Jason Kidd, Knicks Reportedly Have 'Mutual Intrigue' for HC Job Amid Mavs Rumors
There's "mutual" interest between the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd regarding New York's current vacancy, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
"The way I would describe this is there's mutual intrigue on both sides," Windhorst reported during a Monday appearance on SportsCenter.
On Friday, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Knicks were expected to request Dallas' permission to interview Kidd "in the coming days."

James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reported that the "expectation" is that the Mavericks will deny the request, though.
New York is on the hunt for a new head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau three days after the team was eliminated in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
If the Knicks are looking for a seasoned option to replace Thibodeau, Kidd has nine years of head coaching experience under his belt. He owns a record of 179-149 in four seasons with the Mavericks, helping the team make a 2024 NBA Finals appearance.
Dallas' quest to return to the Finals was interrupted when the team made the surprising decision to trade superstar forward Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 2.
Kidd "didn’t always enjoy being Dallas’ spokesperson" following the Dončić swap, per Edwards.
Windhorst noted that the Mavericks could potentially negotiate a trade with the Knicks involving Kidd. He was previously dealt from the Brooklyn Nets to the Milwaukee Bucks as a head coach for two second-round picks in 2014.
Kidd has some familiarity with Knicks star point guard Jalen Brunson, coaching him in Dallas during the 2021-22 season. He also spent the final year of his playing career with New York as part of the team's 2012-13 campaign.
While the Mavericks may not be willing to part ways with Kidd, there seems to be some curiosity between the head coach and the Knicks.
