
Mike Moustakas, Carlos Martinez Earn 2015 MLB All-Star Game Final Vote
The fans have spoken, and Mike Moustakas and Carlos Martinez will be heading to Cincinnati for the 2015 MLB All-Star Game.
The league announced Friday the Kansas City Royals third baseman and St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher won the Final Vote in their respective leagues.
Moustakas' inclusion doesn't come as a major surprise. When the Final Vote candidates were first revealed,ย Grantland's Rany Jazayerli assumed the Royals fanbase would rally around one of their own:

His trip to the All-Star Game isn't entirely without merit. The 26-year-old is averaging .301 with seven home runs and 31 runs batted in.
Twins 2nd baseman and Final Vote runner-up Brian Dozier also cracked the AL All-Star roster, replacing Jose Bautista, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
The far bigger shock is Martinez topping the National League vote ahead of Los Angeles' Clayton Kershaw and Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto. Kershaw remains one of the best pitchers in baseball, while Cueto essentially had home-field advantage.
Legendary baseball writer Peter Gammons argued earlier in the week that the All-Star Game would be a lesser spectacle without those two aces:
Give credit to Cardinals fans for mobilizing and voting in numbers to get their guy into the All-Star Game. Plus, Martinez has been on a roll of late, per ESPN Stats & Info:
Martinez and Moustakas will be making their first appearances at the event, and it may only be the first of a few to come in the future. Both players are relatively young and don't show any signs of an impending on-field decline.
Some will question whether Martinez's and Moustakas' numbers were deserving of the honor, but that will be the furthest thing from the minds of Cardinals and Royals fans when they tune into the game July 14.
