Top Winners and Losers After Champions League 2025 Final

Paul KasabianMay 31, 2025

PSG thoroughly dominated Inter 5-0 to win the Champions League Final on Saturday for the first time in club history.

Achraf Hakimi's 12th-minute goal proved to be all the scoring PSG needed, but Désiré Doué added two goals before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu contributed the icing on the cake.

Here's a look at the winners and losers from PSG's historic victory.

Loser: Kylian Mbappé

Of course, let's get one thing straight right away. The 26-year-old Kylian Mbappé is one of the world's greatest players, with 323 career goals across all competitions since 2015-16 for Monaco, PSG and Real Madrid. He's also a two-time World Cup finalist in France, winning it all in 2018. The list of accomplishments is seemingly endless.

That being said, Mbappé has now seen his former club win the Champions League without him less than a year after he signed a seven-year contract with Real Madrid.

This wasn't a great Champions League run for Mbappé and Real Madrid, either, as the club fell in the quarterfinal round to Arsenal. Real Madrid also fell flat in La Liga, finishing four points behind champions Barcelona.

He also saw his mark for most goals and assists by a PSG player in a single Champions League campaign surpassed by Ousmane Dembélé on Saturday.

Mbappé and Real Madrid will be back to make more noise next year, but the last couple of months have been anything but kind to the 26-year-old.

Winner: Desiré Doué

Saturday served as a simply phenomenal showcase for 19-year-old Frenchman Desiré Doué, whose efforts left Inter spinning its wheels. Not only did he score two goals, but Doué registered an assist on Hakimi’s opener.

In other words, he only needed 20 minutes to make Champions League history.

He also became the third-youngest player to score in a Champions League final.

Needless to say, the €50 million ($54.9 million) transfer from Rennes to PSG last August is suddenly looking like one of the biggest bargains in the sport.

Winner: Luis Enrique

Nine managers have now won the Champions League two or more times since the competition's rebranding in 1992, after Luis Enrique joined that list Saturday.

Enrique previously won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2015. Now he's done the job with PSG after a spectacular run.

Enrique, who once starred as a player for Real Madrid and Barcelona, is one of the sport's best managers today. He led Barcelona to a pair of La Liga titles in 2014 and 2015 and has also guided PSG to Ligue 1 crowns in back-to-back years in 2024 and 2025.

The 2015 FIFA World Coach of the Year is also now the manager of a club that authored the biggest blowout in Champions League history, even dating back to when the tournament was known as the European Cup. No club had ever won a final by five or more goals before Saturday's rout.
