Dolphins' McDaniel Says 'Zero Has Changed' with Jalen Ramsey amid NFL Trade Rumors

Julia StumbaughMay 28, 2025

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that nothing has changed with Jalen Ramsey amid the franchise's reported decision to explore trade options for the star cornerback.

"Quite honestly, zero has changed since the last time I said anything about him," McDaniel told reporters Wednesday, per Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "I'm very much interested in the players that I'm coaching on the field today."

When asked if he believed the Dolphins and Ramsey would reach a resolution before training camp, McDaniel reiterated that he was focused on the players present at Wednesday's practice.

Ramsey will not be present at OTAs, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.

The cornerback later sent a message on social media regarding "false narratives," though it's unclear if it was a product of McDaniel's remarks earlier in the day:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on April 15 that Ramsey and the Dolphins were "mutually set to explore trade options and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he played elsewhere in 2025."

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier told reporters in April that Ramsey hadn't requested a trade, but "it was best interest of the Miami Dolphins and for Jalen Ramsey" to part ways.

Any potential move for Ramsey would become more viable for the Dolphins after June 1.

Any move before that date would cost Miami more than $25 million in dead cap for 2025, per Over the Cap. That number drops by $18 million at the beginning of next month.

Ramsey posted five days before June 1 in what appeared to be the beginning of a countdown to the date.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that Ramsey was drawing "interest in and across the league, I think probably more than people realize."

"It certainly sounds like in the next couple of weeks, the Dolphins will be able to find a trade partner for Jalen Ramsey and he will be moving on yet again," Schefter said.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer meanwhile reported that the package the Dolphins could receive in return for Ramsey likely hinges on how much money the team is willing to take on from his contract. Ramsey is currently set to have a $16.7 million cap hit in 2025, which ranks sixth among all NFL cornerbacks, per Over the Cap.

Ramsey recorded 1.0 sacks, 39 combined tackles and 11 passes defensed in 2024. Breer wrote that "many" people around the NFL believe Ramsey could become "a top-notch safety when age catches up to him as a corner."
