French Open 2025 Results, Day 3 Bracket Winners, Losers, Highlights at Roland-Garros

Nicholas NathansonMay 27, 2025

On Tuesday, less than a week after becoming the third player to win 100 tour-level titles, Novak Djokovic began his next quest: a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.

The Serbian began his French Open campaign with a dominant straight-set victory over Mackenzie McDonald.

Aside from Djokovic, No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev kickstarted his tournament with a straight-set victory over Learner Tien, while No. 11 seed Daniil Medvedev fell to Cameron Norrie in a five-set thriller.

18-year-old Brazilian wunderkind Joao Fonseca also won his French Open main-draw debut, dominating No. 30 Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets, while Gael Monfils gave his home crowd a vintage performance in an epic come-from-behind win.

In the women's draw, top Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula each won in straight sets to advance to the second round, while 2023 French Open finalist Karolina Muchova fell to Alycia Parks in three sets.

Below, you'll find everything you need, from all results to the biggest takeaways.

Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev Handle Business In First Round

3 of 8
2025 Roland-Garros - Day 3
Novak Djokovic

Following months of struggle, Novak Djokovic displayed his best performance of the year.

The 38-year-old won 80 percent of points on first serve, committing just 23 errors en route to a routine straight-set win.

Despite entering with question marks surrounding fitness and form, Djokovic showed no signs of rust, thriving in the match's most physically grueling moments.

Like Djokovic, 2024 runner-up Alexander Zverev entered the French Open amidst months-long struggles with top form.

And like Djokovic, Zverev got off to a hot start, defeating Learner Tien, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the second round.

The top-ranked German player was dominant on serve, where he won 81 percent of total points while saving all four break point opportunities.

Zverev also excelled on his backhand, hitting a stunning winner that you just have to see for yourself.

Zverev's first real challenge should come in the fourth round against Tallon Griekspoor, whom he defeated in five sets here a year ago.

Gael Monfils Dazzles Crowd With Vintage Performance

Gael Monfils

As the clock struck 10:00 p.m. in Paris, France, doubt crept in for 38-year-old Gael Monfils, who found himself in a two-set-to-love deficit against Hugo Dellien.

It seemed like yet another early exit for a player who had not reached the third round of the French Open since 2019 and had not won a match from two sets down since 2015.

Then, the unthinkable happened.

In front of a raucous home crowd on Court Philippe-Chatrier, the Frenchman defied all odds to win the most improbable match of his career.

Monfils has little time to celebrate, and on Thursday will face a tall test against No. 5 seed Jack Draper.

But if we've learned anything over the years, it's to never count out Gael Monfils, especially when he's playing at home.

Joao Fonseca Is A Legit Contender

5 of 8
2025 French Open - Day Three
Joao Fonseca

Roland-Garros, please welcome Joao Fonseca to the list of contenders.

In his French Open main-draw debut, the 18-year-old Brazilian wunderkind was brilliant on Court 7, defeating No. 30 seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.

Consider this: in the past 52 weeks, Hurkacz had won 89.3 percent of service games on clay courts.

Against Fonseca, he lost three of his first five service games and never recovered.

With the French crowd rooting him on, Fonseca hit booming groundstrokes reminiscent of Jannik Sinner, moving with ease the way only Carlos Alcaraz or Alex de Minaur would.

Fonseca's potential is limitless, and it's expected that his next big challenge comes in the third round against Jack Draper.

Even then, considering his current form, he is more than capable of defeating Draper, setting up a likely matchup against co-teenager Jakub Mensik in the fourth round.

Daniil Medvedev Stunned Yet Again

6 of 8
2025 French Open - Day Three
Daniil Medvedev

For the second time in three years, Daniil Medvedev departs Roland Garros after the first round.

After trailing by a two-set-to-love deficit against Cameron Norrie, the No. 11 seed found his best tennis late, winning at least 78 percent of points behind his first serve in the third and fourth sets.

Medvedev looked to be in steady control late in the fifth set, even getting the opportunity to serve out the match at 5-4.

However, the one-time major champion was quickly broken.

Then, when he had a chance to send the deciding set to a tiebreaker, Medvedev was broken once again, even failing to capitalize on a game-point opportunity.

Medvedev's loss opens the draw up for Novak Djokovic, who he would have likely faced in the fourth round.

Top American Women Advance To Second Round

Coco Gauff

Although Coco Gauff didn't perform at her peak on Tuesday, she didn't have to.

The 21-year-old American defeated Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-2, improving her first-round record in Grand Slams to 20-3.

Gauff continued to struggle with her serve, hitting seven double faults, but was certainly helped by an inexperienced opponent in Gadecki, who was making her French Open main-draw debut on Court Philippe-Chatrier, no less.

Gadecki committed 33 unforced errors and won just 14 percent of points on her second serve, allowing Gauff ample breathing room.

Meanwhile, her American compatriot and No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula defeated 20-year-old Anca Todoni, 6-2, 6-4.

Pegula won 84 percent of points on her first serve and was broken just once.

The 2024 U.S. Open finalist played a clean game all-around, committing just 17 unforced errors while winning 75 percent of points at the net.

Karolina Muchova Struggles In Return To Clay

Karolina Muchova

At first glance, you wouldn't have known that Alycia Parks entered the French Open as the loser of five of her last six clay-court matches.

The 24-year-old American stunned 2023 French Open finalist Karolina Muchova in three sets to earn her first career main-draw French Open victory.

While Muchova had not played on clay since the 2024 Paris Olympics due to injury, the 28-year-old was still considered an overwhelming favorite given her success on the surface.

In the decisive set, Parks separated herself from her opponent by winning 14 of 16 points on her first serve while committing just 7 unforced errors to clinch an unlikely win.
