Brock Purdy Says 49ers' Super Bowl Window Is '100%' Still Open After $265M Contract

Adam WellsMay 22, 2025

Even though the San Francisco 49ers lost several key contributors this offseason, Brock Purdy is keeping a positive attitude.

Appearing on KNBR's Murph & Markus, Purdy explained he has "100 percent" belief the 49ers are capable of winning a title with this version of their roster.

"I think every single year we will have a chance. We have our core group of guys that we have had here for a while that has established our winning culture here. ... I think at the end of the day we have what it takes," Purdy said.

One of the reasons the 49ers lost 17 players either via free agency or trade this offseason is because they were making a big investment in Purdy. They got the deal done with their quarterback on Wednesday when he signed a five-year, $265 million extension.

A deal that makes Purdy one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL comes with added pressure, but he's still got a good infrastructure around him, even with the roster turnover.

George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall are among the notable returning players on the offense. A healthy McCaffrey has proved he can challenge Saquon Barkley as the NFL's best running back.

The 49ers revamped their defense by bringing back Robert Saleh for his second turn as defensive coordinator after a four-year stint from 2017 to '20. Their first five picks in the 2025 draft were used on defensive players, led by Georgia defensive end Mykel Williams at No. 11 overall.

Along with all of the incoming players on defense, the 49ers still have Fred Warner, Nick Bosa and Deommodore Lenoir.

There's a very real argument that the top of San Francisco's roster is still good enough to compete with anyone in the NFL. Depth is still the big question mark, and their ceiling could depend on how quickly the rookie defenders adapt to the league.

Putting it all together, though, Purdy is right that the 49ers have the ceiling of a Super Bowl team. They just might need a few more things to go right than they did back when they had one of the best rosters in the NFL.
