Brock Purdy's Contract Details, Bonuses Revealed for $265M 49ers Deal
The San Francisco 49ers officially announced their five-year contract extension with quarterback Brock Purdy on Tuesday shortly after Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Friday that the deal was for five years and $265 million with $181 million in total guarantees.
Yet on Wednesday, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk provided a complete breakdown of the deal now that it has been finalized with a number of notable details.
"As a practical matter, the first three years ($115.346 million) are fully guaranteed at signing," he wrote. "The first real decision point for the 49ers comes after the first two seasons.
"After the 2026 season, the 49ers will have until April 1, 2027 to avoid $55.05 million in full guarantees for 2028. They would owe Purdy $27.25 million for 2027, subject to offset."
If Purdy continues to play at a high level as the face of the franchise for the 49ers, he surely won't have to worry about the team looking to potentially move on after those first two seasons when the "first real decision point" arrives.
Florio also provided some year-to-year details for the contract that he noted features a $40 million signing bonus and a 2025 base salary of $41.1 million. Here are those details on a per-year basis:
- 2026: $8.3 million base salary, $37.8 million option bonus, $850,000 per-game roster bonus and $100,000 workout bonus
- 2027: $11.3 million base salary, $15 million option bonus, $850,000 per-game roster bonus, $100,000 workout bonus
- 2028: $34.1 million base salary, $20 million option bonus, $850,000 per-game roster bonus, $100,000 workout bonus
- 2029: $49 million base salary, $850,000 per-game roster bonus, $100,000 workout bonus
- 2030: $49 million base salary, $850,000 per-game roster bonus, $100,000 workout bonus
It is quite the contract for Purdy, but he has done nothing but deliver since the 49ers selected him with the final pick of the 2022 NFL draft.
He went 5-0 as a starter in the final five regular-season games of his rookie campaign after Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance suffered injuries and also led San Francisco to the NFC Championship Game, where he suffered an injury and lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
He was then a Pro Bowler in 2023 and led the team to the Super Bowl, where it lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. He completed 69.4 percent of his passes for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions that season.
Unfortunately for the 49ers, injuries limited the offense's overall effectiveness in 2024 on the way to a 6-11 record, but Purdy and Co. will surely be expected to bounce back in 2025 as he continues his impressive journey from Mr. Irrelevant to where he is now.
"When we took him with the last pick in the Draft, we knew he had potential to succeed in this league, but we had no idea how special of a player he would become," general manager John Lynch said in the 49ers' contract announcement. "He has played at an exceptionally high level since taking over the starting job, and we look forward to seeing him continue to lead this team for years to come."
