Inter Milan Beats Bayern Munich to Clinch UCL Semifinal Bracket Berth, Thrills WF Fans
Inter Milan is moving onto the Champions League semifinal round after defeating Bayern Munich 4-3 on aggregate in the quarterfinals.
Inter Milan and Bayern Munich fought to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday evening at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan.
Inter Milan entered the match with the advantage after beating Bayern Munich 2-1 on April 8. However, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane's 52nd-minute goal on Wednesday drew this round even.
The eventual victors had a quick answer, though, in the form of goals from Lautaro Martínez (58th minute) and Benjamin Pavard (61st minute).
Martinez has now scored in five straight Champions League matches, while Pavard picked a great time to score a goal against his former club and net his first-ever Champions League goal for Inter Milan.
However, Bayern Munich wasn't done yet, as Eric Dier's header in the 76th minute kept his club's hopes alive.
Bayern Munich ratcheted up the pressure in extra time with four shots (one on goal), but it was not meant to be.
And with that, Inter Milan's hopes of winning its first Champions League since 2010 remain alive. Fans lauded Inter Milan and its tremendous effort.
The semifinal round is now set, with Arsenal taking on PSG and Inter Milan facing Barcelona.
