Nick Saban, Jay Wright, Jason Kelce Among Sports Personalities Nominated for Emmys
Former Alabama football head coach Nick Saban, former Villanova basketball head coach Jay Wright and Philadelphia Eagles icon Jason Kelce have been nominated for Sports Emmys in the Outstanding Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent category, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced Tuesday.
Wright was recognized for his work as a college basketball analyst with TNT and CBS, while Kelce and Saban got nods for their work at ESPN.
Longtime NFL veterans Richard Sherman and Ryan Fitzpatrick were also nominated for their contributions to Prime Video's NFL coverage.
Both Kelce and Saban now have the opportunity to win an Emmy just one year into their respective broadcasting careers.
Kelce signed a deal with ESPN shortly after his retirement from playing after the 2024 NFL season. He joined the network's Monday Night Countdown for the 2025 season.
The retired Eagles star received two Emmy nominations last year for Kelce, a documentary released in September 2023 that followed Kelce's 2022 season with the Eagles and his matchup with Travis Kelce in Super Bowl LVII. He was nominated in the outstanding long documentary and editing categories.
Saban joined ESPN as an analyst for College GameDay shortly after his retirement from head coaching with the Crimson Tide.
He is set to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Dec. 9 in Las Vegas.
Wright, who announced his retirement from coaching in April 2022, joined CBS as a college basketball analyst ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
This marks the second straight year Wright has been up for a Sports Emmy. He was nominated in the same category in 2024.
Sherman and Fitzpatrick, who both played as recently as the 2021 NFL season, each joined Prime in June 2022. Fitzpatrick said in October he had signed a three-year extension with the streamer.
Last year's Emmy winner in the Outstanding Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent category was NBC, Peacock and Nickelodeon's Noah Eagle.
This year's Sports Emmy Awards will take place on May 20 in New York City's Lincoln Center.
