Every NHL Team's Best Jersey from the 2024-25 Season
It's been a hot minute since we've had a jersey lovers' brouhaha. And with the NHL season wrapping up, it's high time we had some more fun and debate.
Whether it's the regular home and road sweaters, alternate jerseys or the extra special event shirts, every team has a few to choose from to rock on the ice. We've seen them all and we've got opinions as to which ones are the best.
Rather than pinning teams against each other, we're putting each team out there and judging which ones had the best looks for them this season.
Every team, every team's best jersey and we're picking them. Happy or unhappy with our selections? Hit us up in the comments.
Anaheim Ducks
1 of 32
The Ducks switching their uniforms up to re-embrace their original logo was a great idea, and so was their idea to embody the color of the county in California in which they play.
Their orange home jerseys are so orange they're divisive and that's the whole point, isn't it? A bright orange jersey is something we haven't seen in the NHL before (the Flyers' orange is darker and more menacing in its own right) and instead of tiptoeing around a color like that, they went all-in, and we respect that to no end.
Their road white sweaters are nice, too, but going all-orange won us over. But really, it's mostly about bringing back the original logo and making it look mean (and festive).
Boston Bruins
2 of 32
The Bruins missing the playoffs is a reason for fans in Boston to be mad and sad, but at least they always looked good doing it. However, for one night only they looked best.
On December 1, the Bruins had their centennial game against the Montréal Canadiens to celebrate being in the NHL for 100 years. They sported special jerseys for the occasion that looked curiously a lot like their road black jerseys from the 1980s and that's a winning look.
There's not a thing wrong with their home and road set, but for one special night, they knocked it out with simplicity.
Buffalo Sabres
3 of 32
You were probably expecting to see the black and red "goat head" jerseys here. But here's the thing about those: They're wildly inferior to the classic blue and gold home and road set.
Fans clamored for years to bring back the original colors when the team restored the old logo after ditching the red-black look in the 2000s. The mix of navy blue, gold and silver didn't win anyone over.
The Sabres did it and it's perfect apart from some nerdy deep-cut qualms about stripes.
The "goat heads" are great for a flash back to the last time the Sabres made the Stanley Cup Final in 1999, but nothing beats the original, especially their road white jerseys where the colors all pop.
Calgary Flames
4 of 32
It's fun to feel smug about seeing teams bring back looks from the 80s and 90s and deciding that, yes, those were the best and we're sorry for trying to do anything different for so long.
That's how it's been for the Flames who brought back their jerseys from the '80s and, man, they're so good. We sided with their home reds because when the name of the team is the Flames, you'd better look like you're on fire.
It's only a shame these are their home jerseys now because fans across the league don't get to see them much, if ever, in their own buildings. Not that the white jerseys are bad, they're very much excellent also, but they're not the reds that grab your attention instantly.
Carolina Hurricanes
5 of 32
Part of us wants to punish the Hurricanes for taking the Hartford Whalers iconography and breaking them out once a year in an effort meant more to sell a ton of jerseys as opposed to honoring the franchise's roots.
But we're going to be happy just to see the Whalers jersey again even if it's really awkward considering why they don't exist anymore.
The blue, green and white are perfect. Seeing Pucky the Whale on the shoulders makes us smile. And hearing "Brass Bonanza" all over again? Yeah, we're the easiest marks. If only the game was played in a mall that had an arena attached to it like the old days.
Chicago Blackhawks
6 of 32
Considering Chicago has one of the most iconic jersey sets in NHL history, picking a shirt that's not either their red home sweater or white roadie seems wrong. But their Winter Classic jersey this year was about as good as it gets for a special occasion.
The look is reverent to Chicago's past and having it be red with the iconic black and white stripes is just too good. Sure, it was a game Chicago fans would love to forget considering how badly the St. Louis Blues beat them at Wrigley Field, but anyone who splurged to buy a new jersey at least went home looking a lot better for it.
Colorado Avalanche
7 of 32
Considering we're not big fans of the Avalanche's alternate jersey, this debate boiled down to whether the burgundy home sweater or the road whites sang to us more. It can vary day to day and, on this day, the road jersey wins out.
What we like most about it is how the white foundation for it allows all of the other unique colors and logo stand out. The darker jersey mutes that in its own way even though it still looks good.
Still, the white jersey best reminds us of the days of Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg and maybe that's because the Avs wear those blue helmets with the home jerseys that jar us into the current reality.
Columbus Blue Jackets
8 of 32
If there's a lesson the Blue Jackets have learned when it comes to making new jerseys, it's that if they include the Civil War-era cannon on it, it's going to be a big hit.
That thought process went into action for their Stadium Series jerseys when they played at Ohio State, and it was a massive win. Why limit the cannon to an old-style circular logo like they have for their alternate jerseys when you can make the cannon the entire crest itself?
The lesson out of this is simple: If you go big, bold and with a massive piece of old artillery that can also scare the life out of unprepared fans at Nationwide Arena for a design, you're going to win big.
Dallas Stars
9 of 32
When the Stars switched to their current look years ago, it was such a needed change and it's been an ideal look ever since.
Both their home and road jerseys are great, and even their third jersey with the neon green coloring is in the truest sense an alternative look.
But when it came down to it, despite our love of the road jersey, the home jersey is just that much better. It's simple and looks like something that could have existed in the 1970s or '80s. The "victory green" color is bright and bold and somehow different than other greens out there in sports.
It's great and it looks awesome in action.
Detroit Red Wings
10 of 32
This might be a huge surprise to anyone who's followed our rankings and picks in the past, but we're going with Detroit's Stadium Series jersey this time around.
Yes, the Red Wings home and road set are perfect and should never change. The winged wheel logo on red or white is everything a hockey jersey should be. But this is like a battle where two players on the same team are up for the same award and the vote gets split while another worth candidate noses their way to the top because of it.
Doing anything different with a Red Wings jersey immediately opens them up to scorn because it's not perfect, but for a one-off game at a football stadium, going with the script "Detroit" on the front with the logo on the shoulder is outstanding.
Edmonton Oilers
11 of 32
It's been such a beautiful relief now that the Oilers stopped messing with their look and went back to the original style and have stuck with it. What used to be their road jersey but is now their home sweater is the epitome of hockey.
It's a look Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey and Grant Fuhr made iconic and it's one that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are proving more than worthy of donning it themselves.
No more navy blue, no more silly alternates, no more trying to improve on perfection. It's the look that made Edmonton the City of Champions in the 80s. Sticking by it is the easiest call to make.
Florida Panthers
12 of 32
Since we can't bring back the Panthers' baby blue Reverse Retros and the team isn't doing it, either, we're stuck having to choose between their home red and road white jerseys.
In this case, the home reds win out because it just seems to look a lot bolder and cleaner. The shirts themselves are busy with the patches and the football-jersey-like location of the sleeve numbers, but the style itself is good with the sleeve stripes and the Canadiens-like stripes through the midsection.
We got spoiled by those Reverse Retros, but they're never coming back. One day we'll get over it.

Los Angeles Kings
13 of 32
The Kings changing their jerseys to look as close to their 1990s silver and black jerseys was such a welcome change from their previous style that we can forgive how enormous the crest logo is.
If they aren't going to wear Forum Blue and gold full-time ever again, then going with the classic 1990s style is a great second prize. It may not look quite as clean as those Gretzky-era jerseys did, but they still look really good whether it's the home black or road whites.
We're siding with the black jerseys, however, because that look is as good as gets and hits us a little harder in our nostalgia feels.
Minnesota Wild
14 of 32
The Wild's alternate jersey is proof that the Reverse Retro campaign was a really good thing.
If you're a cynic, you won't like the green and gold Wild jerseys because it's a blatant tie-in to the Minnesota North Stars who were taken to Dallas. But we're not cynics and we're just happy to see that original color scheme back in the NHL, even if only for a handful of games a year.
It's essentially a North Stars jersey with a Wild logo on it and you know what? That's fine. Everything else about those classic jerseys was incredible and adopting that in a modern way for a fanbase that still misses that team, that logo and those feelings is worth bringing back.
Montreal Canadiens
15 of 32
The Canadiens have one of the best jerseys in all of professional sports.
Their home red and road white jerseys are iconic in their own ways, and if there was ever a team to compete with the New York Yankees for having a classic look that's lasted through the ages that also comes equipped with ghosts from the past, the Canadiens do.
The home road jerseys, however, are the apex of what it means to have a hockey jersey designed to perfection. Countless teams through history have done their own takes on this look to varying levels of success, but it always comes back to thinking, "Gee, they kind of look like the Habs..."
It doesn't get better than this.
Nashville Predators
16 of 32
Just like how we gave the Anaheim Ducks full marks for embracing orange in full, the Predators cleared the road for them to do it when they went all the way with bright gold.
The Preds going all-gold with the jerseys and helmets was such a glaring thing to do when they made it happen that it took everyone by surprise. You'd turn on a game in Nashville and, the yellow was everywhere. More importantly, though, they were unashamed about doing it, which is the key to pulling it off.
The Preds walked so the Ducks could fly and that kind of innovation requires appreciation.
New Jersey Devils
17 of 32
Simplicity works and the Devils' jerseys throughout their history have embraced that.
Having a logo that's among some of the best in sports helps make that happen too, but the Devils going with a straight-up standard-looking jersey just works great.
New Jersey's home red sweaters are the best because if you're going to deal with the Devils, they'd better be dressed in red and black and not white. That's not to say the road white jerseys are bad, they very much aren't, but if they were to lose points in competition with other teams' styles it's because they're almost too standard.
Hey, it works, and it looks great. Complaining about anything with it is essentially nitpicking at its worst.
New York Islanders
18 of 32
The Islanders finding their way back to their original look was a long, arduous journey through fashion but when they found their way back home again, it was definitely for the best.
The Isles' home blue jerseys remind us of their dynasty in the early 1980s. Their road white jerseys do the same as well and while their alternate jersey isn't bad, it doesn't hold a candle to the regular set.
The home blues, however, are gorgeous and making the orange and white stripes pop with a darker color means the combination of the three is beyond great. The Islanders might frustrate their fans on the ice, but at least they look good doing it.
New York Rangers
19 of 32
Just like their Original Six mates, the Rangers jersey rides among greatness because they've had a look that hasn't been messed with much at all for decades.
Their road white jersey is a look that's withstood the test of time. The red, white and blue yoke stripes off the collar, the stripes around the hem and elbows with the diagonally cascading team name in drop shadow across the front. It's a thing of beauty.
Whether you prefer the white or blue jersey is your call and both of them are outstanding, but it's the white jersey that we keep coming back to as the best. We know they're called the "Blueshirts" for a reason, but you cannot deny how perfect the road jersey is.
Ottawa Senators
20 of 32
When the Ottawa Senators turned back the clock and readopted their jersey style from the early 1990s, it was such a welcome return to get away from some of the style and logo weirdness that permeated their looks for the previous 10-15 years.
Bringing back the original logo along with their original shoulder logo was a no-brainer. They're looks that belong to the franchise and the city of Ottawa. When it comes down to the jersey, we side with the road whites simply because the home black jerseys are desperately crying out for a stripe or two of white in them.
Their road sweaters remind us of Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza, while their home set gets us thinking more about their first-year team that not even Sylvain Turgeon or Peter Sidorkiewicz could save.
Philadelphia Flyers
21 of 32
Before the Ducks went with blinding orange, the Flyers were the team emblazoned in orange. Their iconic look became associated with getting beat up by the Flyers on a nightly basis and you can't think of the Broad Street Bullies without picturing them in orange and black.
The Flyers returning to a style reminiscent of the 1980s jerseys, color and all, was a great move and it's a look with an all-time great logo that's unquestionably all Philadelphia.
Seeing them in burnt orange and black with the white sleeves screams who they are and when a team can claim all of those colors and tie it into who they are and what they're about, you know you've got a winning look.
Pittsburgh Penguins
22 of 32
When you've got the skating penguin on the front of a jersey, you know you're doing things right.
When Pittsburgh brought back the style of jersey that's most associated with Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr winning Stanley Cups in the early 1990s, it was a great move that allowed them to not just tap into the past but also tie in the current group of stars with them.
Seeing the Penguins don their black jerseys at home makes them Pittsburgh to the bone and whether it's Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin scoring goals or Kris Letang setting them up, dumping the Vegas Gold color for the classic black and gold was the best thing to happen to the team's style.
St. Louis Blues
23 of 32
When it comes to the Blues, we were really tempted to pick their Winter Classic jerseys as their best of the season. After initially disliking it, it grew on us fast and we really do like it.
But... as long as they have the lighter blue throwback-style alternates in their wardrobe, nothing else comes remotely close to beating that.
The Blues' current home and road set has been virtually unchanged since 1998 and while that's great for consistency in how a team looks, if the look itself isn't great, then what's the point?
Their alternates that call back to the early days of the franchise are so, so good and grab your attention at all times. If they found a way to make the alternate part of their every game style with a road white to match it, we're all in.
San Jose Sharks
24 of 32
When it comes to the Sharks, we love how they've reembraced teal, black and white and making their home and road set look like a modernized version of their original 1990s jerseys.
Those make for a great set and their use of teal helmets helps rub it in that yes, they were on the teal bandwagon for a reason.
When they reintroduced a black alternate jersey, we were a bit nervous about that because their black alternates from the Joe Thornton era got worn into the ground and made you wonder if they even wore teal anymore. But their current alternate jerseys are outstanding.
Using their modernized version of the original shoulder logo on the front with the dorsal fin is great and the striping on the sleeves is fun. It's a truly alternate look and one that works. Here's hoping they don't run it into the ground in the years to come.
Seattle Kraken
25 of 32
The Kraken didn't have any new, fun alternate jerseys this year, so it was all about their home and road set for us to judge. That meant no gorgeous striped throwback-style Winter Classic jersey to lean on, so we're going with their home deep blue sea jerseys.
We enjoy the road white sweaters quite a bit, but there's something about their home set that hearkens to the murky deep that fits so well with the team's name and theme. It also helps make that tiny bit of red really stand out and that's a good thing.
You'd have to think at some point they'll have a third jersey, it's just a matter of how soon.
Tampa Bay Lightning
26 of 32
We know we really dumped on the Lightning's new alternate jersey when they released it late last season and as we looked at it more closely, we realized that we made a terrible error in doing so.
Tampa's third jersey does a lot to tie into the team's history and while some of it is obvious (the circular crest logo), other parts of it are much more subtle (the font of the numbers and letters).
We like the touches of history, and we like that this jersey doesn't remind us of another team in their division, too. It's new, but different, and yet still something that seems familiar. It's a good mix.
Toronto Maple Leafs
27 of 32
If it's an Original Six team, keeping it simple works and it's always worked for the Maple Leafs.
Their blue and white jerseys, be they home or road, are simple and iconic. They're almost boring for what they are but what else are you going to do with a great logo and two colors to work with apart from just letting the crest do the work? That's what makes the Leafs home blues so good.
We're definitely not fans of their black alternate jersey and as fun as the Toronto St. Pats jerseys are on St. Patrick's Day, that's a team that's been gone so long we barely know the history for them. It's the blues all day when it comes to the best.
Utah Hockey Club
28 of 32
It's amazing to break this down for a team whose jerseys might well be temporary placeholders, but here we are.
Utah's color palette is extremely good with black, baby blue and white and both their home and road jerseys are great if not extremely simple by necessity. When they pick a team name in the summer, we'll have a lot more to work with (we hope), but if this is the first and last time we've seen these jerseys, then we're going with the home black set.
Both sets are clean, but we like the look of it all on the home jerseys a bit more. Whether they're the Yetis or Wasatch or Outlaws or whatever in the future, we hope the new look can make use of the simplicity they had this year.
Vancouver Canucks
29 of 32
The Canucks have one of the best uniform sets in the league and their blue, green and white home and road set are as clean as it gets. The logo is good, and the style of jerseys is outstanding.
But listen, we're suckers for nostalgia, OK? The "flying skate" black, red and gold alternates from the 1990s just look so good. It's almost unnerving to see how good they look when up against other teams and the only thing that throws us off is seeing it on the ice at Rogers Arena and not at Pacific Coliseum.
Watching Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson wheel around in the black jerseys looks phenomenal and the use of matte black helmets gives it a modern feel that's unnerving in a good way.
Vegas Golden Knights
30 of 32
We've proved already that we reward teams who embrace who they are and where they're from; and when it comes to the Vegas Golden Knights, there can be only one choice for their jersey.
Their sparkling gold home shirts are too good to pass up. They embody classic Las Vegas where everything is glitz, glam and sparkling on the Strip, which is fitting because that's where T-Mobile Arena is located.
When they introduced these jerseys as an alternate years ago, it was a slam dunk hit and even though their original pewter gray home jerseys were good, the gold ones blew them away.
It probably helps out a ton that the Golden Knights won their first Stanley Cup while wearing the gold jerseys, which means they'll be hard-pressed to ever give them up. That's OK, though, they should never let them go.
Washington Capitals
31 of 32
We've been unabashed haters of the Capitals home and road set that's gone essentially unchanged since Reebok designed them nearly 20 years ago and we've been begging them to do something to make it even a little bit more modernized.
They've relented, which means either we have to give in on our own opinions or pick an alternate jersey out of spite.
Thankfully, the Capitals brought back a Reverse Retro jersey as a third jersey to make us feel better about everything. Their black version of the 1990s "screaming eagle" jersey is outstanding and reminiscent of their third jersey from back in the day as well because of the gold, blue and copper color scheme.
It's an incredible look and a great-looking jersey that in no way has any weird piping and unnecessary lines and patches of color throughout it like the home and road set.
Winnipeg Jets
32 of 32
Seeing the Jets pay tribute to their WHA days with a gorgeous navy-blue throwback jersey with the logo the franchise that moved to Arizona used in the 1980s is fantastic.
We're not haters of their home and road set and the team's current logo is a good one, but when you've got a logo as good as the old Jets had back then, making use of it is a winner for everyone.
It looks like a throwback in every sense, and it just feels right seeing another team in Winnipeg wearing it again. It's a classic look all around and the design around the entire uniform is outstanding.
Now that the Arizona Coyotes and everything associated with them has been put into mothballs, it kind of feels like it's a matter of time before the old Jets history returns home, doesn't it?
