Matisse Thybulle Reportedly Exercises $11.55M Blazers Contract Option for 2025-26
Matisse Thybulle is sticking with the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason.
Per Shams Charania of ESPN, Thybulle exercised his $11.55 million contract option for the 2025-26 season, keeping him in Portland for at least one more year.
He would have been an unrestricted free agent had he declined the option. Instead, he'll hit the free agency market next offseason unless he and the Blazers reach an extension before then.
Thybulle, 28, began his career with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019 and quickly established himself as a reliable bench option. He earned a pair of NBA All-Defensive Second Team nods in 2021 and 2022 after recording more than a block and more than 1.5 steals per game in those two seasons.
Thybulle saw his role in Philadelphia decrease dramatically during the 2022-23 season as he played just 12.1 minutes per game through the first 49 games of the year.
After a rough start to the year, Thybulle and the Sixers parted ways when he was traded to the Blazers at the deadline. Following the trade, Thybulle went from playing 12.1 minutes to 27.7 minutes per game for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.
In 2023-24, Thybulle had a solid role off the bench and put up 5.4 points per game, but injuries became a factor for him last season. He didn't make his season debut until March because of a handful of ailments and ended up playing just 15 games.
Considering how few games he played in 2024-25, Thybulle likely wouldn't have had many offers in free agency, so returning to Portland will give him the chance to boost his numbers and perhaps get a bigger payday in free agency next season.
