John Tortorella, Cam York Reportedly Had 'Heated' Exchange Before Flyers Fired HC
Former Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella reportedly had a "heated verbal exchange" with defenseman Cam York before his Thursday morning dismissal by the team.
The report was initially shared by The Athletic's Kevin Kurz, who wrote that an incident between York and Tortorella during the team's trip to a Tuesday night game in Toronto "contributed to the coach's dismissal."
A source told Kurz that both York and Tortorella "probably both crossed the line."

The Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli added that the "heated" incident did not involve any "physical altercation."
York dressed for the Flyers' Thursday night win over the Montreal Canadiens but did not skate. Interim head coach Brad Shaw told reporters after the game that York had been benched for "disciplinary reasons."
The game took place hours after Shaw had been promoted to take the place of Tortorella, who had been fired with nine games remaining in his third season as the Flyers' head coach.
"You're going to ask me, is there one thing that happened?" Flyers general manager Daniel Briere said Thursday during a press conference held after Tortorella's firing. "It's not one thing. It's a series of things that have happened, and probably a little bit more in the last three weeks that it's escalated, since probably around the trade deadline, right after that."
Tortorella's final game with the Flyers was a 7-2 loss to the Maple Leafs in Toronto, which capped off an 1-10-11 stretch that all but solidified the team's third straight playoff miss under Tortorella.
York, who has averaged more than 21 minutes of ice time per night for the Flyers this season, took the ice for the final time that night with 9:30 remaining in the first period.
The Leafs scored seven seconds later after York lost a puck battle behind the net:
York spent the entire rest of the game on the bench, even as the tied game during into a Leafs blowout win. Tortorella declined to discuss his benching afterward, and York was not available for postgame media, per Kurz.
Tortorella did take the blame after the loss by saying he was "not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season, where we're at right now."
When asked if those comments had influenced his decision, Briere said it was "one of those things that have happened along the way" but "not the specific reason" for Tortorella's firing.
Shaw said York will play Saturday during the Flyers' home game against the Buffalo Sabres, per Kurz.
The Flyers head into the weekend at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division with a 20-36-9 record. The franchise is currently on track for top-four odds at the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft.
