The Nashville Stars were a semi-pro and minor league Negro league baseball team established in the 1930s before being disbanded in the 1950s.
In 2019, Music City Baseball first announced plans to bring an MLB expansion team to Nashville and name it the Stars to honor the Negro League team. Since its establishment, the group announced a partnership with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and added celebrities like music artists Justin Timberlake, Darius Rucker and Luke Combs, radio and television personality Bobby Bones and former Tennnessee Titans star running back Eddie George to its advisory board.
MLB legend Don Mattingly joined Music City Baseball as a baseball advisor in 2023. The former New York Yankees star spent a year with the Double-A Nashville Sounds in 1981 before making his major league debut the following year.
"The approach that Dave Stewart and his team have in Nashville is exactly what the game of baseball needs," Mattingly said upon joining Music City Baseball. "I am glad to see MLB taking an active approach on these important issues. We need more diversity in the game, and it starts from the top-down."
The cap and logo reveal could indicate that the group is getting closer to establishing the Nashville Stars as the first expansion team in MLB since 1998.
