Aaron Rodgers Rumors: 'Very Possible' QB Signs Giants Contract amid Vikings Buzz
The idea of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers joining the New York Giants is reportedly picking up some steam within NFL circles.
During an appearance Sunday on SportsCenter, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler said the following about the likelihood of Rodgers signing with the G-Men:
"It feels very possible. Aaron Rodgers is on the Giants' radar. I'm told they're going to go into Monday's tampering period with several quarterbacks in mind. They are scouring the Earth for quarterback help. They are not really discriminating here. They know they have to get a capable passer, so Rodgers is on the list. You got Sam Darnold, Justin Fields. They are open to a lot of those options, but it does feel like this could be getting a little bit of momentum around the league that Rodgers could be open to staying in New Jersey. He's already got a home there, played for the Jets last year, could just switch over to the Giants."

Underrated FA Signings 📈
The Jets have yet to officially release the 41-year-old Rodgers, but it is an inevitability at this point after the team announced last month that it would part ways with him this offseason.
Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer with 10 Pro Bowls, four First Team All-Pro selections, four NFL MVP Awards, one Super Bowl win and one Super Bowl MVP Award to his credit, but all of those accolades came during his 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
His past two seasons with the Jets were a major disappointment, as he missed all but one series of action in 2023 due to a torn Achilles, and then posted a 5-12 record last season.
While Rodgers clearly wasn't as dynamic last season as he was for much of his career previously, his numbers were respectable, as he completed 63.0 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
It is understandable why that level of production might be attractive to the Giants, who saw Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle combine to throw for 3,228 yards, 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions en route to a 3-14 record last season.
After cutting Jones and with both Lock and Boyle set to hit free agency, DeVito is the only quarterback the Giants have under contract for next season.
The Giants reportedly made an attempt to acquire veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams this offseason, but once the Rams decided to keep Stafford, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Giants were "shifting their interest" to Rodgers.
It was previously reported by Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that there was "talk" within the league that Rodgers reached out to the Giants to gauge their interest in him.
A new potential suitor for Rodgers emerged over the past week in the form of his former longtime NFC North rivals in the Minnesota Vikings.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the Vikings were a "dark-horse" candidate to sign Rodgers.
Rapoport noted that after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, the Seattle Seahawks planned to pursue Sam Darnold in free agency, which would leave the Vikings with a need at quarterback.
The Vikings would perhaps give Rodgers the best opportunity to win after they went 14-3 last season, but he would have to contend with 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy competing with him for the starting job potentially.
As of now, Rodgers would be the clear starter for the Giants, although they could take a quarterback such as Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Shedeur Sanders with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Even if the Giants sign Rodgers, they won't be expected to win many games next season, but he could be a decent stopgap until they find their quarterback of the future.
