NHL News: Rangers, Avalanche Make Trade Involving Ryan Lindgren, Jimmy Vesey, More

Julia StumbaughMar 1, 2025

Longtime New York Rangers Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey are heading to the Colorado Avanche.

The Rangers are trading Vesey and Lindgren to the Avs for a package including Juuso Pärssinen, Calvin de Haan and two draft picks, according to

The Athletic's Peter Baugh first reported the full trade.

The Rangers are retaining half of the $4.5 million cap hit remaining on Lindgren's expiring contract, per Baugh.

Lindgren has made all 387 of his regular-season appearances for the Rangers since the franchise drafted him in 2016.

Vesey, who has played parts of six seasons with the Rangers over two separate stints with the team, is also on an expiring contract that carries a cap hit of $800,000.

Moving both players ahead of the deadline allows the Rangers, who are on track to miss the playoffs, to pick up draft capital in return rather than risk losing both players in free agency this summer.

The Avalanche meanwhile move on from two players who were already in and out of the lineup in Denver.

De Haan, a regular healthy scratch, appeared in 44 of the Avalanche's 61 games this season, mostly on Colorado's bottom pairing.

Pärssinen, acquired in December from the Nashville Predators, was another healthy scratch candidate who appeared in 22 games with the Avalanche's bottom six forwards.

Both players could now serve depth roles while Chris Kreider and Adam Fox are sidelined by injuries.

Baugh projects Pärssinen slotting in as the third-line center, while de Haan could slot in alongside Urho Vaakanainen on the Rangers' bottom pairing:

The Rangers also add draft capital to help retool this offseason.

After the Jacob Trouba trade, Lindgren was the Rangers' top go-to penalty killer. The Avs are running a middle-of-the-pack penalty kill and could be looking to improve at 4v5 by adding him to the unit.

Vesey hasn't been playing on the Rangers' special teams, so he will likely see most of his ice time with the Avs' bottom six at even strength.

De Haan and Pärssinen could make their Rangers debuts on Sunday against the visiting Nashville Predators, while Vesey and Lindgren could slot into the Avs lineup in time for Tuesday's home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
