LeBron James Questions Lakers Playing 6 Games in 8 Days as Part of March NBA Schedule

Zach BacharFeb 22, 2025

LeBron James isn't a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers' busy March schedule.

The Lakers will play six games in eight days from March 13 through March 20, which James called "insane" in a post on his Instagram story.

While sets of back-to-back games are common in the NBA, it's unusual to have three consecutive pairs of back-to-back contests.

The peculiar stretch for the Lakers in March occurred after their schedule was changed due to wildfires in the Los Angeles area, which caused their initial matchup with the Spurs on Jan. 11 to get postponed.

The game was later rescheduled for March 17.

The March slate will be especially important for a Lakers team fighting for playoff positioning in the Western Conference, as they face off against the Denver Nuggets twice.

Los Angeles currently sits at No. 5 in the West standings with a 33-21 record, although the team is only three games behind the Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 2 seed.

James' frustration is understandable, but the Lakers have still been successful without days off this season. They've played seven games on the second half of a back-to-back during their 2024-25 campaign, owning a record of 5-2 in those matchups (via Basketball Reference).

The NBA's all-time leading scorer is in the midst of another strong season, not showing many signs of slowing down. James has averaged 24.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game on 51.6/39.7/77.0 shooting splits in 50 starts.

Los Angeles is also working to integrate Luka Doncic into its rotation after acquiring the superstar forward in a blockbuster three-team trade involving the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz on Feb. 2.

As the Lakers attempt to clinch their fifth playoff berth in six seasons, they'll need to navigate through an intense stretch of games in the middle of March.
