Lakers vs. Spurs, Clippers vs. Hornets Games Postponed By NBA Due to LA Wildfires

Zach BacharJan 10, 2025

The NBA announced that matchups between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs as well as the Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte Hornets on Saturday have been postponed due to ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

As part of the announcement, the NBA and National Basketball Players Association donated $1 million for relief efforts to the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen and "other organizations" to support those affected by the fires.

The dates for the rescheduled games will be revealed at a later time.

The Lakers previously had a home game against the Hornets postponed on Thursday due to the fires.

The NBA isn't the only league to push back games, as the NHL postponed a scheduled matchup between the Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

The NFL also moved the upcoming NFC Wild Card playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams to State Farm Stadium in Arizona because of the continuous wildfires.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick revealed that his family lost its home in a wildfire in the Pacific Palisades on Tuesday.

"I was not prepared for what I saw," Redick said, via Greg Beacham of the Associated Press. "It's complete devastation and destruction. I had to go a different way to the house, but I went through most of the village, and it's all gone. I don't think you can ever prepare yourself for something like that. Our home is gone."

The Lakers and Clippers are both still scheduled to play home games on Monday against the Spurs and Miami Heat, respectively.

A series of wildfires in the greater Los Angeles area have killed at least 11 people and destroyed more than 12,000 structures, according to NBC News. The exact death toll is not known.
