Marlins P Jose Fernandez Hits Home Run in 1st Game Back from Tommy John Surgery
The Miami Marlins and the baseball world have been anticipating Jose Fernandez's return to the mound ever since the stud pitcher underwent Tommy John surgery last May.
While the Marlins may have missed his arm in their rotation, apparently their lineup needed his bat too.
On Thursday against the San Francisco Giants, Fernandez made his first MLB start in nearly 13 months. The right-hander got off to a bit of a rough start, allowing two runs in the first inning, but he settled in quickly—on the mound and at the plate.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Fernandez crushed a 1-1 pitch from Giants right-hander Matt Cain over the left-field wall.
It was the second home run of the 22-year-old's career, with his first coming in the final start of his rookie season in 2013.
Here are the details of the home run, per ESPN Stats & Info:
Fernandez's home run cut the Giants' lead to 3-2. The pitcher's dinger sparked the rest of the offense, as the Marlins scored four runs in the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
The bat is still good, but how's the arm?

Fernandez picked up the win in his 2015 debut, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out six in six innings of work.
