Copa America 2015: Semi-Final Live Stream Schedule and Updated Predictions

Christopher SimpsonJun 29, 2015

The final four teams in the 2015 Copa America have been decided, so it's time to look forward to the mouth-watering semi-finals that await.

Chile booked their place in the semi-finals in controversial circumstances, beating Uruguay 1-0 in a game that saw La Celeste reduced to nine men, while Peru continued their strong run in the tournament with a 3-1 win over Bolivia.

Argentina and Paraguay both needed penalties to overcome Colombia and Brazil, respectively, and will need to shake off any fatigue when they face off in the next round.

Chile vs. Peru

Hosts Chile will take on old rivals Peru in the first semi-final.

La Roja have impressed at the Copa and stand an excellent chance of winning their maiden title in the competition.

Vidal is a key figure for Chile.

Thanks to some outstanding performances from the likes of Arturo Vidal and Charles Aranguiz, Chile scored 10 goals in the group stage—six more than any other team.

Vidal's three goals highlight his role as the fulcrum of the team, and the 28-year-old has put in some typically all-action displays, as Opta Javier demonstrates:

Chile also boast plenty of firepower in Alexis Sanchez, and Peru will need to be alert to the forward's threat if they are to progress.

La Blanquirroja are undoubtedly the underdogs, but their comfortable 3-1 win over Bolivia and solid group-stage performances will ensure Chile do not rest on their laurels.

Paolo Guerrero followed up his hat-trick in 2011's Copa America with a second three-goal haul in the quarter-final, which drew praise from FCB writer Cristian Nyari:

Peru manager Ricardo Gareca believes his side is improving all the time.

Per Sacha Pisani of Goal.com, he said: "We've got the weapons to be a competitive national team, but I believe that every match we have, we keep getting better. We should play the best match possible in every match to satisfy the people who always support us."

Peru have shown they should be capable of giving Chile a scare, but the stage is set for La Roja to reach the final in front of their home support.

Prediction: Chile 2-1 Peru

Argentina vs. Paraguay

As the Daily Mail's Rik Sharma notes, many will be disappointed that Argentina won't be taking on Brazil in the semi-final, but Paraguay have shown they are capable of matching the more illustrious opponents they've faced:

La Albirroja were staunch in their defence against Brazil and maintained a strong level of performance despite conceding an early goal to Robinho.

Paraguay faced La Albiceleste with some success in the group stage, coming away with a 2-2 draw after finding themselves two goals down.

Gerardo Martino's inability to find a system that suits Argentina's array of attacking talent, chiefly Lionel Messi, will also encourage Paraguay.

Football journalist Rafael Hernandez is critical of Martino and hints that he is a hindrance to Argentina's progress:

As Purely Football note, Messi is struggling in front of goal for his national side, so there is some merit in Hernandez's suggestion:

Of course, it doesn't help matters when goalkeepers are making these kinds of saves:

Both sides faced penalties in their previous matches, so the winner here could be determined by who best deals with the inevitable fatigue extra time brings.

Paraguay showed great character and resilience to turn their fortunes around in their earlier clash, but Argentina won't be so complacent this time around. If La Albiceleste get their noses in front, expect them to fight tooth and nail to hang onto their lead this time.

La Albirroja are indeed deserved semi-finalists, but Argentina can edge through here to set up a thrilling showdown with Chile.

Prediction: Argentina 2-0 Paraguay
