Umass At #12 Boston College- Don't Expect Eagles to be Caught Off Guard
On paper, one would think Boston College would wipe the floor with the University of Massachusetts this Saturday in Chestnut hill.
The focus all week surrounding the Eagles has been "It's Their Super Bowl", slogans that have been floating around the locker room to get the Eagles fired up. They saw very clearly what Appalachian State did to Michigan. Last season in the D-1AA Championship, the team App. State beat was these same Minutemen.
As for the focus of Umass: they really have nothing to lose. They are undefeated in D-1AA and would like nothing more than to defeat interstate powerhouse #12 in the nation in Boston College. On the offensive side of the football, I see Liam Coen having a decent game. Umass will be trailing, so they will be passing alot and I envision him throwing for over 200 yards. Matt Lawrence, who is averaging over six yards per carry, will be stopped in his tracks on Saturday. Umass' defense will probably get lit up by Matt Ryan—they are giving up under 20 ppg, but allowed Holy Cross to score 30 in their closest bout. Look for BC to score at least 30 Saturday.
As for the favorites BC: I see them coming in focused, energetic, and prepared for their task at hand. Matt Ryan will pick apart this defense. This is a stat padder for him, and if it's a blowout early, Junior Chris Crane will probably see some action. Andre Calendar and LV Whitworth will see many touches as the Eagles will lead throughout.
This one definitely looks to be a trap game, but I think the Eagles are prepared. They know they have reached their highest ranking in 14 years, and that a 5-0 start going into next weekend's matchup with a weak Bowling Green team means going into Notre Dame 6-0 to face the winless Fighting Irish.
