Recap
Gerrard and Lampard both played in their final Premier League fixtures on Sunday, but the two legends of English football had far different afternoons. Lampard scored in Manchester City's 2-0 win over Southampton, and while Gerrard also found the way to the net, the Reds suffered an embarrassing loss at the hands of Stoke City.
At half-time, the score was 5-0, and the Sunday Times' Duncan Castles was anything but impressed:
After losing his final match at Anfield, Gerrard likely would have hoped for a similar ending as Lampard's, per former England international Gary Lineker:
Sergio Aguero won the Premier League's Golden Boot and thanked just about everyone he could think of after the match, per the club's official Twitter account, but all eyes were on Lampard at the Etihad:
Lampard and Gerrard weren't the only players saying goodbye to England's top division on Sunday. Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who returned to the club after a spell away from Stamford Bridge, also featured in his final match for the Blues.
The Ivorian didn't score, but that didn't stop his team-mates from carrying him off the pitch, as shared by Sky Bet:
Fellow Chelsea striker Loic Remy shone brightest in his absence, scoring twice in the champions' 3-1 win over Sunderland.
Theo Walcott's 2014-15 campaign has been one to forget, but judging from his final appearance of the season, he could be in store for a major bounce-back season in 2015-16.
The winger scored a hat-trick for Arsenal, per Eurosport.com, as the Gunners cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win over West Bromwich Albion:
City's win over Southampton means Spurs and Liverpool have qualified for the Europa League, although the Saints could still join them if Arsenal beat Aston Villa in he Europa League final.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United beat West Ham United 2-0 to secure their Premier League spot for next season, regardless of the result of the match between Hull City and Manchester United. Fans of the Magpies endured a difficult afternoon, and former striker Peter Lovenkrands didn't hold back when Moussa Sissoko finally broke the deadlock:
The Tigers join Burnley and QPR on their way to the Championship, with Leicester City the only promoted club able to avoid dropping straight back down. The Foxes underlined their Premier League credentials with a massive 5-1 win over QPR on the final matchday.
