3 Dream Transfers for Borussia Dortmund This Summer

Stefan BienkowskiMay 24, 2015

Borussia Dortmund may yet finish this season with a DFB Pokal Cup winner's medal and a spot in the Europa League next season, but for this squad and incoming manager Thomas Tuchel there is still plenty of work to be done.

Sebastian Kehl said his goodbyes during the club's win over Werder Bremen on Saturday and leaves a rather notable hole in the Dortmund midfield. Add to that the constant speculation linking some of the club's best players with moves this summer, and there's little surprise that a number of fans are hoping the new manager will have a shortlist as long as his arm.

As such it's time to take a look at the possible signings the Black and Yellows may make this summer to improve their chances of an even better season next year.

Johannes Geis

As we just mentioned, Kehl is indeed retiring this summer, and should Ikay Gundogan get his move abroad Tuchel will be left with no more than Sven Bender and a rather injury prone Nuri Sahin in midfield.

As such the former Mainz manager could do a lot worse than bringing in 21-year-old defensive midfielder Johannes Geis from his former club to sure up a rather soft underbelly in Jurgen Klopp's current side.

Even if Gundogan were to stay and Sahin were to overcome his current injury woes, Geis would make a fantastic signing as a player who could almost instantly fit directly in to the side with a whole bag of potential to boot.

Baba Rahman

Dortmund need a new left-back. Sure, a number of fans still appreciate the work Marcel Schmelzer does each week, but the German international simply can't cut it at the highest level and at 27 years of age, he certainly isn't going to be getting any better.

The only other alternative—assuming Tuchel keeps Erik Durm on the right flank—is Jeremy Dudziak. A player with unquestionable talent but not one which the new manager should rely upon just yet.

As such the incoming coach should be on the hunt for a new full-back, and in Augbsurg's Baba Rahman he could do a lot worse.

The Ghanaian international is just 20 years old yet possesses the skill and intelligence of a defender who has long since figured out every trick in the winger's handbook of skills.

This full-back is going to be a star, and Dortmund need to snatch him up before a bigger club come looking.

Kevin Trapp

Another necessity for Tuchel in the first few months of his time at Dortmund is to address the manner of goalkeeping at the club right now.

Roman Weidenfeller, like Schmelzer, has been a long-serving talent at the club and was a star during the very best days of Klopp's reign, yet now we have a shot-stopper who simply doesn't look up to the task of bringing Dortmund back to the brink of matching Bayern Munich.

As such the German coach will most likely be on the hunt for a new keeper, and among a whole host of options within the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp looks like the safest bet.

There may be younger goalkeepers with possibly better potential, yet few will be able to walk in to the Dortmund team and begin orchestrating a shaky defence quite like Trapp will.
