Big XII Preview: Who Else Apart from Texas and OU?

Alex FergusonSep 3, 2009

I'd make this Big XII preview longer, but seriously, what's the point?

As far as most people are concerned....

Texas and Oklahoma will battle it out for their spot in the National Championship when the two heated rivals meet at the State Fair on October 17th. Both sides will run the table after that, and it's Tim vs Sam (or Colt) for the title.

But can't we talk about....

Oklahoma State?
While I'm still not convinced about the "D" in Stillwater (let's face it—is ANYONE convinced about ANY Big XII defence?) (now worsened by the suspension of starting CB Perrish Cox), the offense, led by QB Zac Robinson, is going to be a lot of fun this year.

One stupid College Football Live pundit said that Dez Bryant is a better wide receiver than Michael Crabtree, which just ain't true. But Robinson will be without starting TE Jamal Moseley. Cowboys fans: we'll see how good your team is when you get together with Georgia on Saturday.

Prediction: Third in the Big XII South with a 10-3 record

Who's Taylor Potts?

Mike Leach's high-octane offense at Texas Tech isn't going to slow down a jot with quarterback Taylor Potts, who's got a cannon. Tech will definitely test Texas and Oklahoma's corners, but it won't be good enough to win a division. But Leach, Potts and Co will go bowling—probably to the Alamo.

And up north?

First point: God it gets cold in winter up there!

Second point: Nebraska and Kansas to battle it out for the North title, while we can just about rule out everybody else. Nebraska's defence will be once again improved under coach Bo Pellini, who's going to make the shirts black even if it kills him.

But how will the defence cope with Todd Reesing, Kansas' excellent quarterback, and QB/WR Kerry Meier, RB Jake Sharp, and WR Dezmon Briscoe?

Prediction: Nebraska. Most are going with KU, but I think the Huskers will do it.

But then again....

What does it matter? Either Nebraska and KU are going to be shredded by the UT/OU train anyway!

And more importantly:

Best co-eds and cheerleaders:
Texas. Never have cowboy boots looked so great.

And a quick word from the best fans in the conference (who didn't have a lot to cheer about last season because their team sucked so badly—and probably will do this year):
