Relegation Drama On Final Day

Eibar would have hoped that a final-day win against Cordoba would give them the points to leapfrog both Deportivo La Coruna and Granada in the relegation standings—with their rivals playing Barcelona and Atletico, respectively—but it was not to be, as both teams performed the great escape.
Draws for the Brancoazuis and Nazaries were enough to seal their involvement in Spain's top division for another season, sending Eibar down, despite their 3-0 win.
The story at the Camp Nou was the highlight of the day, with Deportivo 2-0 down and on their way out of La Liga.

Two goals from Lionel Messi had seemed to have ended the game as a contest, as Barca cruised to the line, but dramatic strikes from Lucas and Diogo Salomao gave the away side the point, sparking scenes of wild celebration.
WhoScored.com highlighted how unlikely Depor's feat had been considering Barca's recent form:

Valencia almost gave away their Champions League position on the final day, having to twice come from behind to beat Almeria, winning 3-2.
They would have surrendered fourth spot to Sevilla, who beat Malaga 3-2.
Prominent football writer Sid Lowe confirmed some of the pertinent facts of the day:

In La Liga's other matches, Athletic Bilbao destroyed Villarreal 4-0 to claim a highly impressive win, Celta Vigo finished their campaign in style with a 3-2 home win over Espanyol and David Moyes was celebrating after his Real Sociedad team ran out 4-2 winners at Rayo Vallecano.
In Saturday's only late game, Real Madrid made dramatic work of their game against lowly Getafe, losing the lead and allowing the visitors to go 2-1 up—before winning the tie 7-3.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first half hat-trick, with additional goals from Chicharito, James Rodriguez, Jese and Marcelo.
It has been a wonderful season of attacking football in Spain, with both Ronaldo and Messi proving they are the world's best talents still.
Atletico were unable to build on their phenomenal success last year, but in Antoine Griezmann, they have a global superstar of the future.
The saddest point of the final day was the emotional farewell to Xavi, who departs the Catalan superclub after 17 seasons of magic and trophies.
His substitution late in the game was met with a standing ovation and chants of his name, and he will never be forgotten by any knowledgeable football fan on the planet.
