Daily Fantasy Soccer 2015: Complete EPL and MLS DraftKings Primer for May 23-24

Steven CookMay 23, 2015

Championship Sunday in the Premier League will cap off a weekend chock-full of daily fantasy action on DraftKings in world football, beginning with Major League Soccer's six-match slate Saturday.

While the weekend will bring to an end the thrilling 38-week season of the EPL, America's top league will carry the torch of world football daily fantasy action in the MLS' first DraftKings season. With that in mind, let's pick out some strong options for each league over the weekend slate.

It's a gamble to slot Hull City's striker for a strong performance when a win is needed against Manchester United to avoid relegation, but Dame N'Doye should be up for the challenge. His 34-point performance a few weeks back at Crystal Palace is all that's needed to prove he's capable of exploding, and he is likely to face second-string goalie in Victor Valdes with David de Gea leaving last weekend's fixture late with an injury.

Midfielder: Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City ($7,300)

Not only are Leicester City riding high after valiantly securing their spot in the EPL for 2015-16, but they are one of the hottest teams in the league, ranking second in the form guide. Riyad Mahrez's play has followed suit, averaging 16 DK points in his last three outings—which included a two-goal performance against Southampton.

Queens Park Rangers' relegation has been secured for some time, and Leicester and Mahrez should end their season accordingly.

Defender: Eric Dier, Tottenham ($4,900)

Tottenham's defense is finally making a surge into daily fantasy relevance, with Eric Dier producing double-digit performances in three of his last four starts. Dier's affinity for crosses (17 in the last four games) will loom large and Spurs should emerge victorious against an Everton squad that have dropped two of their last three.

Goalkeeper: Adrian, West Ham ($4,000)

If there's one thing that can be bet on in the Premier League as of late, it's Newcastle struggling to score goals. In tune with their incredibly awful recent form, Newcastle have only produced five goals in the last six matches. Adrian has two clean sheets in his last four performances, and he should bounce back from a poor performance last weekend versus Everton.

One of Major League Soccer's veteran goalscorers has carried D.C. United to the top record in the Eastern Conference, with Chris Rolfe notching a game-winner for his third goal of the season last week against Orlando City. Should Fabian Espindola continue to miss time with an injury that has kept him out since May 2, Rolfe will be the target man.

That should bode well for Rolfe Saturday, against a New England squad that is winless in its last three and on a tough turnaround from a 4-2 loss to Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday.

Midfielder: Javier Morales, Real Salt Lake ($7,600)

Real Salt Lake midfield maestro Javier Morales has been quiet in his last two outings, but only one was a start and that was preceded by three matches with at least 19 DraftKings points. New York City FC's franchise start has been a tough one, without a win in eight matches and that should bring the best out of Morales in another high-scoring performance.

Defender: London Woodberry, New England ($5,200)

No MLS defender has taken off quite like London Woodberry, whose salary has skyrocketed from a lowly $2,900 to over five grand in just five matches. With double-digit performances and an assist in two of his last three outings to go with a nine-point average, Woodberry should get his points in a high-flying matchup between the West's top two clubs.

Goalkeeper: Dan Kennedy, FC Dallas ($4,400)

While slotting the goalie facing Montreal (who have seven goals in six games) is common practice in the MLS thus far this season, Dan Kennedy presents a strong case as it is. The FC Dallas goalkeeper has notched at least seven points in each of his starts this season, and he should be good for a clean sheet against one of the league's worst offenses.
