Fabregas Has Ban Reduced
Wednesday, May 20
Chelsea released a statement on the club website announcing that Fabregas' three-match ban was reduced to a one-game suspension, meaning the midfielder will miss the season finale against Sunderland.
The Spaniard was sent off for aiming the ball into a group of players after Diego Costa and Jonas Olsson had gotten involved in a war of words. He hit Chris Brunt on the head before being shown red, per the official Chelsea Twitter account:
OptaJoe would suggest the former Arsenal and Barcelona man isn't a malicious figure, however, with this being only the second red card of his Premier League career:
Whether the kick was intended to hit an opponent, only Fabregas will know, but the question remains as to why he would risk such judgement by kicking the ball anywhere near the huddle of players.
That small error has cost Fabregas dearly, as he will now miss out on the chance to break Thierry Henry's record for assists in a Premier League season (20), ending his campaign on 18.
