Here’s a full rundown of the penultimate round of fixtures in the 2014/15 season and a closer look at a couple of encounters that will have major connotations at the bottom of the Premier League.

Sunderland vs. Leicester City

For Sunderland in particular, this is a massive game. While the Black Cats have a game in hand on the other sides scrapping to avoid relegation, their last two matches are away at Arsenal and Chelsea. As such, this clash with Leicester City at the Stadium of Light could be their last opportunity to pick up some points.

The visitors are in tremendous shape at the moment, too. As we can see here courtesy of FourFourTweet, there’s no team in the division in better form at this juncture:

Remarkably, the Foxes aren’t quite safe themselves either, but a win this weekend would ensure they are playing Premier League football next season. Nigel Pearson’s men have been playing a cohesive, dynamic brand of football in recent weeks and will rock up in the north-east fancying their chances of making it seven wins in eight.

However, as we can see here, courtesy of Squawka Football, the hosts are flourishing under the astute tutelage of Dick Advocaat:

The Black Cats are unbeaten in three games and have won their last two, including a hugely important and somewhat fortunate 2-0 triumph at Everton. They’ll also be aware that a win in this one will take them to 39 points and should ensure they are safe.

With a draw no good for either side, expect an open game here. Sunderland have improved as of late, but in front of their own supporters, they’ve occasionally been a little nervy, and with the pressure on here, that could hamper them again. As such, expect the Foxes to edge a thriller.

Prediction: Sunderland 2-3 Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Hull City

Despite enjoying a mini renaissance with wins over Crystal Palace and Liverpool, Hull City have lost their last two matches and now look the big favourites to go down. But Steve Bruce will ensure his team scrap until the very end and they will fancy their chances of nicking something against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Spurs have failed to win in their last three matches and were well beaten in a 3-0 loss against Stoke City last time out. Indeed, as noted by Chris Miller of Four Four Two, a season that promised plenty is in danger of fizzling out:

Mauricio Pochettino’s side could even miss out on a top-six finish, with both Southampton and Swansea City closing in. Hull could potentially be perfect opposition for them to get back on track, though.

HULL, ENGLAND - MAY 09: Ahmed Elmohamady of Hull City looks despondent during the Barclays Premier League match between Hull City and Burnley at KC Stadium on May 9, 2015 in Hull, England. (Photo by Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images)

While the Tigers have plenty to fight for, they are a team on their knees at the moment. Losing at home to Burnley was a major blow to their chances of staying up, and with games against Spurs and Manchester United to come and with points needed, it’s tough to see how they’re going to haul themselves out of trouble this time.

Hull left-back Andrew Robertson remains positive however, per the club’s official Twitter feed:

With both sides in poor form, don’t expect a free-flowing encounter in this one. Hull know that if they don’t get a result this weekend, then their relegation could be confirmed, and given their opponents have little to play for by comparison, expect them to take a point from this one.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Hull City
