Denzell Goode to Indianapolis Colts: Full Draft-Pick Breakdown

Tyler BrookeMay 2, 2015

Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has been known to search far and wide for players to add to his roster, and he did that once again with the second-to-last pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

With their final selection in the seventh round, the Colts selected Denzell Goode out of Mars Hill. If you were wondering who the offensive lineman the Colts drafted was, don't worry, you're not alone. Most draft analysts, including myself, had never heard of him until his name was called.

Goode might be one of the most obscure draft picks from the weekend. The fact that I couldn't find a single picture or video to use for this article should tell you just how obscure this selection was. I even had to figure out where Mars Hill University is, and apparently it's a small private school with less than 1,500 students and a Division II football program.

According to Kevin McGuire from College Football Talk, Goode is the third player drafted in Mars Hill school history and the first since 2003.

Goode transferred from N.C. State before playing for the Lions, and apparently he was good enough for the Colts to give him a chance and bring him in. There's not a lot to find on Goode, but at 6'7'' and 320 pounds, it's pretty clear that at least he has an NFL frame.

At this point, it's not even clear if Goode will have a shot at making the final 53-man roster. However, the Colts need some kind of depth at offensive tackle. Anthony Castonzo has been a consistent left tackle for the Colts, but there are plenty of concerns with the health of Gosder Cherilus.

As Mike Chappell from RTV6 points out, drafting Goode helped the Colts continue their streak of drafting an offensive lineman in every draft since 2003.

Players who are selected this late face an uphill battle to make the final roster, and the Colts already have some players fighting for backup offensive tackle spots as well. Joe Reitz will make it because he's been a versatile bench player whom they've been able to move around, so Goode will be competing with names like Ulrick John, Tyler Hoover and Matt Hall for one or two more backup positions.

There's not much that I can tell you about Goode's potential, but if the Colts could leave him on the practice squad for a few seasons, he could wind up developing into a pretty serviceable offensive tackle with that impressive frame.
